The Dark Host
Umbral Scourge of Kartia
The Dark Host was the Abyssal invasion force of the Material Plane during the Umbral Deluge between 974-995 AM. It was led by the Demon Lord Vyriavaxus and four unique Shadow Demons, the Harbingers. Whilst vestiges of the remnant Host remain active in large parts of Greyhyx, the loss of its powerful leaders completely destroyed the Host's semblance of structure and prevented it from reforming into an organised fighting force.
History
After Vyriavaxus' defeat, Brass Pact armies undertook limited eradication operations against Dark Host remnants; these were halted after a wave of desertions swept their ranks. Nowadays, frequent patrols and spontaneous military excursions by Akkon's Noble Alliance Army have resulted in demons largely steering clear of the roads of Greyhyx, and known demonic activity is all but extinct elsewhere. Further, the breakdown of the Dark Host's command and subsequent splintering, in addition to centuries of internal power struggles and sporadic infighting, has all but removed the presence of weaker demons such as dretches from its numbers. Indeed, military accounts from Akkon and its allies have long suggested that most remnants seem to have rallied under demon warlords and adopted asymmetric tactics such as guerrilla warfare, supply line disruption, sabotage, feinted retreats, and not constantly killing each other in order to survive.
The Last Harbinger
According to Izdubar, two of the Dark Host's Harbingers survived the Battle of the Six Marshes; one was slain by him sometime after, and the last one is supposedly active in northeastern Greyhyx, in the vast area known as the Ruined Lands.Disbandment
With Vyriavaxus and two of the Harbingers banished to Rankarrus, the Dark Host quickly collapsed.
