The Battle of The Great Barrier Planets was the opening salvo in the Tarquin War. 2000 heavily armed, Tarquin Migration ships and their escorts, burst through the barrier, having made the trip across the interspiral space from their home arm.  The planets stood little chance against such a fleet, the first of many, and with their position so far away from any other known threats the closest fleet was several weeks away.
