Death is one of the oldest, most powerful and most benevolent Gods. She is known as the Keeper of the Candles and it is said that her realm is Grand Hall after Grand Hall of candlesticks, each representing a single mortal life. From there, Death watches over all of the mortal Candles as they burn bright and ultimately diminish.
There are various beliefs regarding what happens when a Candle stops burning. Some believe that Death replaces extinguished Candles with a brand new Candle, ready to be lit by Essence, allowing for the rebirth of the soul. Others believe they receive only one Candle, and that Death’s purpose is to usher souls into the afterlife.
Many individuals will claim to have seen Death, whether they have seen her visiting with a dying relative, or been visited by her in a dream and warned away from an untimely passing. Death is depicted as a beautiful and ageless woman, often reflecting the same race as those who are worshiping her or those she is visiting (i.e. within the iconography she has been depicted as belonging to all races). Religious symbology for Death is most commonly a flameless candle.
Death is close friends with Essence, and is said to have helped Essence to experience death so that she could better understand her own nature.
