Across the Emerald Valley 2: Electric Boogaloo Report

General Summary

The party finishes their rest in the Emerald Valley and continues to hex 10,3. After several hours of walking, they come across a humanoid dressed in black robes standing in the middle of the road. The figure claims to be an ancient and powerful wizard who demands a toll for using his road. He has three stones floating around his head and he claims they are a status of his power Anytime the party is rude to him, sparks appear from his hands and the sound of thunder is heard. This terrifies Bilge who throws the wizard his toll. The more the party asks him questions, the more he stutters and is slow to answer them. Mozi casts detect magic and realizes there is a strong aura of illusion magic coming off him. Ashi realizes that the stones floating around his head are actually attached to strings. While Mozi tries touching the stones, Ashi shoots an arrow and severs the string causing the stone to land on the figure's head.
The figure realizing the jig is up, tells the party his name is Trevor and he's an actor that's a part of a traveling theater troupe. The rest of the troupe comes out and reveals themselves. Trevor explains they came to the West Marches for inspiration for his latest script and hoped to make some coin along the way, but quickly realized that there aren't many towns here. They set up shop on a road and used their theater skills to extort money from travelers while he finishes the script. The party takes pity on them and guarantees they'll be back for them and take them to Riverrun. Bilge and Mozi want to duel the stage combat master to which Trevor charges them a fee. Bilge pays 25 gold to fight her and Bilge wins. The party continues on their way exploring more of the hex.
Night falls and the party comes across a camp. Flimp fails a perception check and fully believes he sees a werewolf at the camp. Flimp rages and charges ahead, cleaving what he believes is the werewolf. Bilge arrives in the camp shortly after him and sees him hacking and slashing at a log. The party regroups at the camp and searches the area. They find that the inhabitants were here recently and might have left when the party arrived. They find nothing but camping gear and cooking gear. On the fire spit, the party sees three pieces of meat roasting. They realize that the meat isn't animal and is humanoid. Bilge notices a person in the woods watching them and he pursues them. The party follows behind and Bilge manages to tackle the person and bind them. The person is a Hobgoblin named Credance. The party interrogates him at the camp with Mozi wanting to execute him. Flimp tries to bite off Credance's toe but fails. Credance explains he is the cook and doesn't know where the meat comes from. He doesn't hide the fact that it's humanoid, stating that its the circle of life.
Mozi tries to decapitate him but Bilge blocks the blow. They argue and Ashi works out a deal wth Credance so the party won't get attacked while they are here. He draws her a symbol to use as protection and she cuts his binds, freeing him. He gives Flimp some seasoning bottles for not taking his cooking supplies and heads out. The party agree to spend the night here, now that all the danger is seemingly gone.
During Bilge's watch, he hears chittering from the nearby treeline. He sees a creature with red eyes watching him. Bilge succeeds a Constitution saving throw, but still wants to approach the creature. He wakes up Ashi before he leaves and she wakes up the rest of the party. Flimp throws his bonemeal seasoning at the creature but misses. Bilge stands directly underneath the creature and cloth descends down surrounding Bilge. Mozi tackles Bilge into the cloth, trying to save him but ends up getting captured as well. Ashi using a well placed arrow shot, Flimp throwing his seasoning again, and Mozi using her sword the cloth tears open and they fall out.
The creature leaves and the party celebrates. Mozi turns her face into what she believes the creature is and mocks its screech. It comes back landing on Mozi and uses Bilge as projectile to hit Flimp. The party fights this creature known as Fiddlesticks but they are severely outmatched and are being picked off. Mozi decides to sacrifice herself so the rest of the party can get away. She gives Ashi her holy symbol and the party's last image of Mozi is being impaled on Fiddlestick's hand.
The party grabs the theater troupe and continues their mad dash to the Emerald Valley for potential safety. They rest for the night and make their way back to Riverrun where they tell Farin everything. They hear pounding on the tavern door and the corpse of Mozi enters, possessed by Fiddlesticks and issues a warning to the party, "Run, adventurers, run. You have only prolonged the inevitable."
