The Archivests

The Archivists are an order of curators and librarians located in Autara. The order is in charge of curating and caring for the books and artifacts kept in the Palace Library as well as researching and studying the world around them and recording their findings. They are master scholars and have extensive knowledge of the history and magic of the world.

Ranks

In order to become an archivist one must go through extensive education and training. Most archivists start as children or teens by passing a test to become a junior apprentice.
Over time as the junior apprentice gains knowledge and experience they will gain rank as an apprentice and become a senior apprentice. Senior apprentices hold some authority over other apprentices and their duties include managing the younger apprentices and assisting the older archivists.
Senior apprentices, after finishing their studies, are promoted to full-fledged archivists. The Full-fledged archivists can start their own projects and experiments and may have an apprentice assigned to them to teach and use as an assistant.

Senior Archives & the Senior Council

When an archivist is determined to have become an expert in their field of study, they are promoted to senior archivists, a privilege normally only given to the oldest most knowledgeable of the archivists.
The Archivists are led by a council made up of the most senior members, called senior archivists, who are each expert in their own topic of study. They are expected to teach the apprentices and appoint senior apprentices as well as a representative to the crown when needed.

History

The order was created by a former The Queen of Stars, some five hundred years ago, to allow for more public knowledge and research. The order was originally not located in the palace library but moved there three hundred years ago at the behest of the queen when their order was growing bigger and the palace library was starting to need more curation.

Uniform

The Archivists have a specific uniform that helps them be identified while working. They wear long gold and yellow robes, with the senior archivist wearing a box-like headdress. All Archivists wear a belt with an attached magnifying glass with an engraved brass and enamel handle.
The apprentices wear blue tunics with yellow accents. They wear a belt with a simple magnifying glass with a wooden handle. Senior apprentices' uniforms have more yellow on them than the junior apprentices' uniforms.
