Autara is a kingdom, more specifically a queendom, that holds power from the start of the dark forest to the Hill Lands. The regions that the kingdom includes the Capital, the farmlands, and the
Hill Lands, as well as the fringes of the
Dark Forest.
Autara is ruled by a matriarchal monarchy from the Capital, with the ruler being called the
Queen of Stars. There are also mayors and governors who are elected by the people in the town or region they live in.
Those that live in the kingdom and come from there are called
Autarans, apart from those living in the northern Hill Lands which are called
Hill Landers. The majority of the kingdom's population lives in small villages and agricultural settlements, and the kingdom’s largest city is the
Capital which is also the seat of power for the kingdom.
The Kingdom also has an ever-changing population of
Sea Folk who travel up the river to trade for part of the year.

The Capital
The Capital is a large town, the largest town in the kingdom, and the seat of power for the kingdom's monarchy. The Capital is an urban center whose population is made up of laborers, tradesmen, scholars, and merchants.
The Farmlands
The Farmlands is the large swath of land reaching from the edge of the hill lands to the coast south of the capital, along the edge of the dark forest. The area is made up of farmlands, pastures, and small towns with the population mostly being farmers and workmen.
The Hill Lands
The Hill Lands are the hilly moorlands to the north of the farmlands. The region is mostly made up of small villages with the population mostly being farmers and herdsmen. There are also some mines and mining towns in the region.
History
Autara is centuries, if not millennia, old and was founded by the first Queen of Stars, with territories being added through treaties and marriage agreements.
The First Queen’s hometown, at the time a small urban center, was made her seat of power and grew to become the Capital. The First Queen and her early successors commissioned master craftsmen and builders to expand the capital and build important buildings, like the Palace.
