The Arpton Citadel

This imposing tower stands in the city of Dawndale, the capitol of Vadaton. The tower is built from an already present World Pillar. The Citadel's construction was order by King Agron I, in 571 AD.

Purpose / Function

After Agron I had solidified his rule, he ordered a city to be built around the site of the World Pillar. A massive dark stone pillar that stood there as long as anyone can remember. The Kingdom of Ateodal had to that point no actual capitol, because their previous one had been destroyed by an Ironwalker rampage some thirty years prior, killing Agron I's grandfather Arpton. During building and excavating, Agron decided the name would be in honor of his grandfather, hence, The Arpton Citadel. Ateodal had established itself as a powerfull kingdom. Able to defend itself from greater forces than itself. Agron I could not think of any better way to carry that message better than building inside a mysterious World Pillar. The city, but mostly the Citadel, was a statement.

Design

The Citadel stands 300 meters tall. The tower is round and surrounded by 10 pillars that stand 5 meters taller. These are engraved with texts and art from their respective gods. The tower sprouts from The Great Hall. In this Hall, the 10 pillars can be seen coming out of the ground. The Hall is round and walkways form the sides. The King sits in a throne made from an ancient animal's skull, found inside the Pillar. That skull is so large that they made a throne out of it. The skull is coated in gold.

Entries

There is only one entry into The Citadel. A great door at the east side. There's only one to make the defence of the city, if it should fall, easier.

Denizens

The Citadel is home to the Eagle Kings. It has its own guards, but is often also guarded by the Order of Iron.

Architecture

The entire Citadel has been built from a World Pillar, which has a dark stone type that is not known to this world. The building has ten different pillars rising from the sides. These signify the ten Eagle Gods of Vadatonian Religion. The top is made flat and is accessible. This is the highest point in the valley of Ateodal. At a good and clear day you may even see The Horizon in the east. The structure is tall enough to see the sun come up first. Some Kings went up there to see the dawn and enjoying the beauty of it. Aurelion I called it: "A beauty blessed by Hyrcanus himself."

History

The order to build it was given in 571, near the end of the year. When preparations where done, and building could start, it was 573.
Here it is that the greatest city will be built. When the Sun rises in the east, it is this tower that first graces its beauty. Thát thing will be my home, and the rest of the people will live around me.
-King Agron at the site that would become Dawndale. The city finished within years, most of the buildings being built from the same dark stone that was excavated from the Pillar. The Citadel finished 25 years after commissioning. The Citadel has been home to The Line of Eagle Kings for 300 years until Vance, an Acreostan traitor, drove out Eagle King Lycaron and made it his home. 10 years later he lost the city again to Lycaron and his army. Lycaron, however, died before he could sit on the Golden Throne. His successor, Agron IV succeeded him at the age of 18.
