Session 1: Portal to Nyanzaru, aka the Market Misadventure
General Summary
After meeting Lady Sindra Silvane at her residence in Waterdeep (and breaking a very expensive couch, much to the butler(?) Baldric's displeasure), you discuss the coming adventure. Burg Quott (The Greater) adds to the incomplete map Sindra has given you with the estimated location of a ship that disappeared in a magical explosion and may have been transported to an area south of Mezro and Ataaz Muhahah.
After that, you are teleported to Port Nyanzaru, the only trading port in Chult. The streets are a riot of colour and greenery. The air is hot, humid, and heavy with the smell of spices. The sound of wandering tabaxi minstrels, the general bustle and the rumbling of the dinosaurs local Chultans use as beasts of burden assault your senses.
Parting ways with Sindra Silvane and her butler(?), you head to the Grand Souk, the largest of the 3 markets in the city. Immediately upon entering, the definitely-normal-human of the party gets bumped by street urchins, and a pouch of gold is taken. Douglass notices this and calls for the guard, catching the one carrying the gold.
Amaxh, the guard captain, explains that young Malec (the only one to be caught of the group of kids) was a repeat offender, and was to be sent to Executioner's Run. There, he would run for his freedom - and his life - through a pack of hungry carnivores. Amaxh would not listen to your request for clemency, and Malec will run at mid-morning tomorrow.
Additionally, while purchasing insect repellent, rain-catchers, Batiri masks, and other important adventuring gear (and breaking a training dummy... Oops...), you meet Undril Silvertusk, a half-orc cleric on a mission to deliver missives to Camp Vengeance on behalf of the Order of the Gauntlet. You agree to meet her in the Grand Souk first thing tomorrow morning, on your way to (possibly) watch a child get eaten. Riveting stuff!
After that, you head through the Red Bazaar, past all the massive slabs of dinosaur meat and into the Thundering Lizard Inn, a raucous tavern with an ill-tempered Dwarven barkeep. He tells you of a drunk who came in ranting about a wise and generous Naga south of Kahakla Gorge. He also mentions that the Flaming Fist took over all operations where Rahlg'n Istvaan's mercenary company - Presidio - once presided. Suffice it to say, he's not a fan of their business practices. You also pick up that an airship called the Star Goddess was expected to arrive a week ago, but never showed.
You finish your meal and head to bed, lulled to sleep by the sound of drinking and/or bar-related violence, and the unsettling, pulsating lights of Burg Quott (the Greater)'s unknowable runes. A new dawn awaits, and Malec's life is in your hands... or a carnivore's jaws.
Oh wait, you forgot to meet Wakanga Otamu and Sindra tonight... Fuck. Well, that's tomorrow's problem.
