Brodert and I are concerned about your welfare. Belor Hemlock, our beloved Sheriff of Sandpoint, has been spreading word that strange things are occurring in the surrounding countryside. There are rumors of townsfolk gone missing, along with travelers feeling as being watched as they traverse the caravan routes to Magnimar. The latest rumor has been regular logging shipments aren’t arriving as scheduled. Of course, this has fed into Brodert Quink’ s obsessive theories of the Thassilon Empire. Just last week, he was sitting in the Rusty Dragon Inn trying to convince a group of people that the Old Lighthouse ruins were once part of a mystic tower of one of the Runelords, whatever a Runelord is. It was lucky Ameiko Kaijitsu kept pushing mead, or we might have had a riot on our hands. Brodert laughs, but even now he doesn’t go out alone to study those ruins. It’s hard to believe he’s been here 10+ years to study those ruins. As soon as he starts spouting those wild theories, I return to studying my maps. My obsession with history has led to buying many maps. This has proved a boon, because about a week ago I opened a shop called “The Way North”. I’ve found myself procuring and trading maps with travelers passing through Sandpoint. I still believe its all a bunch of rubbish started by those vile Scarnzi Syndicate mobsters. Why the syndicate had to originate and settle throughout Varisia I’ll never know, but I’d bet one of our noble families here in town has ties with them. As your good friends, we petitioned the Mercantile League, to secure elite caravan guards to see you safely to Sandpoint. Jasper Korvaski (Mercantile League Contact), a business man, promised us he would ensure your safety, definitely wanting those shipments of lumber to be delivered. We found it odd he seemed to be more worried about the lumber than your safety, but that was probably Brodert and I misunderstanding his intent. Once you receive this note from the traveling caravan passing by on the route, three days later you will see a chest appear under your desk. Inside you will find an official writ, a fountain pen & ink, plus seven bags of gold. Have each seasoned guard sign the writ, then after all guards have signed the writ, break the pen. Jasper indicated its very important they sign the writ before breaking the pen. Brodert and I will see you once you arrive in Sandpoint. Don’t be late, the Swallowtail festival is bigger than usual years because of the christening of the new Cathedral. Father Abstalar Zantus(Priest) is so excited for its grand opening, games and events, sponsored by Sandpoint businesses, are scheduled throughout the day before the evening ceremony. Maybe Ameiko will finally give you a dance!
