Session 3: Are we a party? Report

General Summary

The party returned to the Fire Flower tavern after the events at Lord Sorbrizal's manor, shocked at the events that lead to their hand in slaying quite a number of combatants on both sides of the conflict. However, their plans to leave the city immediately are thwarted as their presence is requested by the High Lord Kalanor at his palace. Once the party arrives in Kalanor's luxurious office, he meets with them to discuss the events of the past few days, and inquires about their involvement in Lord Sorbrizal's death. The party informs them that while they were present and participated in the battle and chaos, they did not slay Lord Sorbrizal, and that the Tarotics were the one's who slayed the Lord and burned his mansion to the ground. High Lord Kalanor decides the party isn't responsible, and dismisses them.
Emelina requests High Lord Kalanor if he would take her on as a Knight, but he declines, informing her that the Knights order is looked upon unfavorably by the Ardentia. However, he suggests she travel to Kholinar instead, as High Lord Dalinar (while not much of a religious man) does seem to like Knights of the Ardentia, though he isn't very well liked by the Ardentia either. He adds that an emissary from Kholinar was visiting him not that long ago, and left some documents for Dalinar behind.
Emelina decides to head to Kholinar, while Therion and Kassian decide to also join her heading west, though they are preparing to part ways as the duo continues their hunt of monsters to fell. Honey, Lyrellia, and Solomon all head to the northwest, with the intention of visiting the culinary capital of Roshar so Honey can "eat everything". As the others prepare to depart, Quilletta heads south west, back to her teacher in the woods of central Roshar, and Vestele readies to find new heists in Waterdeep in the very south of Alethkar. Thus the party goes their separate ways.
As Kassian and Therion head off on their own, they find themselves pinned down by a group of monsters, and it seems like this might very well be their final battle together. Then another traveler see's the pair struggling and offers her assistance to them. Together, Kassian, Therion, and Angelique are able to beat back the monsters before making their timely retreat. Interested in each other, the duo becomes a trio as Angelique joins their monster slaying team.
Meanwhile, Emelina and Zeinab arrive in the main city of Kholinar. After some time, they travel through the main streets of the city, and arrive at the palace where the High Lord resides. Eventually, they are granted an audience from High Lord Dalinar, who accepts the documents from Emelina, chastising the emissary (who is not present). Dalinar then accepts Emelina into the order, and introduces her to Captain Dawn Enega, a light eyed half orc and ardent. As Emelina leaves to finnd her new quarters with the knights, she runs into Lord Gellantra, who doesn't pay her any heed, but had an appointment with Dalinar.
Later that evening Dalinar, met with his guard captains, who recommended a certain party would be perfect for tasks that Dalinar would normally send them on but they do not have time for. The High Lord takes their recommendation seriously, though he does chastise one of them for forgetting to bring everything High Lord Kalanor had given him, he agrees, and one captain reveals that the newest member of Dalinar's Knights of the Ardentia is in that party. Emelina is called back to the conference chambers to speak with Dalinar, who requests she send out invitations to the party she was with in Kelathar to bring them to him, and she agrees. Soon Kassian, Honey, Vestele, Solomon, Quilletta, Therion, and Lyrellia all receive invitations to the city of Kholinar. They all head to the Princedom ruled by the Kholin's, unsure of what awaited them in the "capital of Alethkar".
The party is reunited, and taken to a large office with a couple of desks, and a number of chairs and couches. After some time waiting, a wolf enters the room from the front entrance, but she ignores the party and curls up in front of the heating fabrial set within the fireplace. Eventually, a man in an unbuttoned Kholin blue uniform with a number of folders, messy hair, glasses, fox ears, and a mug of possibly coffee enters the room, and does a double take as he realizes there are people in the office. The man says the Captain of Dalinar's guard will be with them all soon, and begins placing folders on the desks.
Eventually a second man enters the room, wearing the same blue uniform, except his is buttoned up. He has a spear strapped to his back, shaggy hair that ends just before his eyes, and a stern face. He is introduced as Kaladin, captain of Dalinar's guard, before he snaps back that the other man (named Reiner) is also a captain of Dalinar's guard. The two sit at their desks, Reiner amused with himself, and begin to discuss the reasons why they called the party together. They explain that they are two leaders of Dalinar Kholin's army, though due to light/dark eye politics, they are not so outright about it. Kaladin leads Dalinar's personal guard, an elite unit of fighters who protect Dalinar and run missions for him. Reiner leads Dalinar's army, and is an additional member of the personal guard. Until recently, they would coordinate missions for the guard, protect Dalinar, and train and maintain his army. However, as hostilities with other princedoms have mounted, and rebel groups and bandits have become more commonplace in these unstable times, they are stretched too thin. In response to this, Reiner and Kaladin have been looking for a party who can operate outside the restrictions of military engagement and jurisdiction, remain anonymous, and yet still take orders from the Kholins. The two wish for the party to do that for them, they will be provided with some provisions and assisted by the guard and army, and they will pay the party for their missions. The party takes the offer, and they are given a job clearing out a goblin encampment that has been causing some issues for the northwestern part of the Kholin territory.
Upon reaching the cave the goblins are encamped in, the party attempts to smoke out the goblins inside. They're very nearly overwhelmed, as the Goblins, attracted to the loud noises coming from the entrance of the cave, attack en masse. The party is able to barely survive the encounter, however they return victorious to the palace. Once they present evidence of completing their quest, the party is paid, and then instructed to find lodgings within the city. The Kholin's will supplement room and board for the party for the first month while they set up operations, but after that the party will be expected to earn enough to live through their contracts with the Kholin's, and other quests they find within the city from locals.

  1. Figure out and design lodgings for characters. This is dependent on what the characters want but a few options are available including: designing a full guild hall with places of residence for players, owning/renting separate places of living and/or business and meeting in a tavern or having a small hall for jobs, etc.
