High Elves

With heads held high and an air of nobility and grace around them, High Elves are one of the many types of Elf-kind that can be found on the world of Varda. An affinity for the Arcane Arts has moulded High Elves in top a race of wizards and mages, with even those not apt in the flow of The Weave being able to cast at least simple cantrips.

High Elves are typically slightly taller than their cousins, with heights ranging from 6-7 foot. With the typical pointed ears that all Elf-kind share, they have slender forms, often weighing no more than 145 pounds. Most High Elves are fair-skinned, and a silvery or golden shine seems to emanate from them at times. Their hair ranges from white to black, with blondes and browns also being common. Other colours are unheard of, except in the cases in which the family genetics has been merged with another race (often resulting in a Half-Elf). Eye colours tend to be blue or green, although purple or a shining gold can also be found. The advanced visibility of Elves is also present in High Elves, allowing them a degree of vision in dark areas.

Ageing similarly to other Elves, High Elves reach maturity at much the same rate as Humans and like Wood Elves, are considered young until around their first century. Unlike other Elves, High Elves live a much longer life, and can live to around 2500 years. It is theorised that their reliance and incorporation with the magical energies they used has greatly increased their life-expectancy. High Elves also require no sleep, but instead have a period of each day in which they enter a meditative trance. This allows them to rest their bodies and minds, and reflect on the days events.

Origins of the High Elves

The origins of the Elves is truly unknown, with their history ranging back many thousands of years. With little time for Gods and Goddesses, and instead believing in The Sun, The Moon and The Stars, High Elves do not have their own creation myth. Despite this, they do recognise they must have come from somewhere, like all races of the world. They theorise that some great being that has long since left Varda must have bought them in to being. Research and study has been done in to this, as the High Elves have a constant pursuit of knowledge, but very little can be gleamed from ancient texts and magical experimentation.

Finding High Elves in the World of Varda

Most High Elves would be deemed arrogant, with an attitude that seems to emanate a sense of superiority. Their long lives, extensive knowledge and controlled emotions has caused all manor of slights and insults over the years to other races. This is often not intended by the High Elves in question, as it is more than likely the High Elf does know more about a given subject. Due to their nature, High Elves tend to keep to themselves. The vast majority of them can be found in their realm, the Isle of Laheria. A sanctuary and almost utopian society, Laheria seldom welcomes outsiders except for trade. High Elves are also found in other places in the world, but these will be the exception to the rule. Often times, exiles, outcasts and those with a slightly different nature to the typical High Elf will leave Laheria are those that are found elsewhere.
