Librariarch

Magaia, the Librariach, also known as the Mistress of Magic, is the goddess of magic and the arcane energy that flows through the cosmos. She is worshipped by sages and spellcasters who seek to study the phenomena of magic, rather than relying on devotion to attain its power. She opposes Fallen Gods such as Eldra'zhen the Knowing Sinner and the Far Whisperer, both of whom dabble in the perversion of magic and the forbidden knowledge of its power.   Contents

Description

Appearance

Followers of the Librariarch describe her as a mature woman with azure-colored skin, the freckles on her face like stars on a clear midnight sky. Her silver hair is often tied up, and her robes bellow in the wind.

Personality

As the goddess of magic and the arcane arts, Magaia maintains a true neutral stance on the moral spectrum, despite being part of the Prime Deity pantheon. She avoids leaning too much towards good or evil as it could corrupt the flow of magic, altering its properties. Nevertheless, she is generally seen as a kind-hearted and tolerant deity, even towards creatures with less desirable traits.

History

The Age of Birth

Magic, like the gods themselves, was a formless entity that merely existed throughout the cosmos and could not be properly controlled by neither the Prime Deities nor the Fallen Gods. It wasn't until the race of elves began showing signs of having tamed the arcane arts, although these attempts initially resulted in unpredictable outcomes. This prompted Magaia, alongside Iou, the God of Inventions, to create the Weave. The Weave is an endless font of magic that resides beyond the fabric of space, yet it is accessible to those with the power to control the flow of magic.

The Age of Arcanists

The Weave was originally created by the Prime Deities as a means of channeling their divine magic onto their followers, known as divine arcana, which is powered by one's devotion towards a deity or a code of conduct. However, over time, mortals learned to manipulate the Weave themselves to conjure spells independently, leading to the development of neutral arcana. Neutral arcana is a magical force that emphasizes one's mental fortitude and willingness to control the Weave through understanding.   As mortals delved deeper into the mysteries of magic, some began contacting the imprisoned Fallen Gods and their minions in search of even greater power. This pursuit gave rise to necrotic arcana, a form of magic born of negative thoughts and a desire to overwhelm and dominate.

Humans and Magic

Despite being a relatively young race compared to many of the other races on Rhan, humans picked up magic surprisingly well. Theories surrounding this speculate that the Weave, and magic as a whole, feeds off of emotions and morals. With humans being naturally ambitious and adventurous, their desire to learn and understand allowed them to grasp the concept of magic quickly. This is also speculated to be the reason behind how they've managed to compete with the other races, although other factors often play into this as well.   Unfortunately, this ambition also led to a lack of caution for some, resulting in many human spellcasters falling victim to the sway of the Fallen Gods. This gave rise to the first warlocks, individuals who often signed binding pacts with powerful entities in exchange for power.
