The Prime Deities

The Prime Deities is a tight pantheon of gods who view creation as both a gift and a responsibility they bear, seeing how they brought life to the cosmos. They believe it is their duty to protect mortals from the corruption and temptation of the Fallen Gods, who often seek to lure eager and weak-minded individuals in with promises of fulfilling their every desire in exchange for their devotion. To mortals, the Prime Deities represent the good in all things, the cycle of life and death, and the loving bond between family and friends. To many, a temple or small shrine is more than enough to show one’s devotion towards their chosen deity.   Contents

History

The Age of Birth

The gods who had helped bring life to Rhan were called the Prime Creators, consisting of four out of the twenty gods in the pantheon. When the gods began fighting amongst each other over their followers, tensions grew, which eventually sparked the Heavenly Wars. Those who would later become the Fallen Gods wished to subdue mortals and limit their free will, effectively using them as charges for their power. The Prime Deities saw it as their responsibility to defend and guide mortals towards enlightenment through good deeds.   The war between the gods could have ended in mutual destruction and the end of the universe as a whole. However, thanks to the Prime Creators, the Fallen Gods were locked away in their own respective plane of existence, far from the reaches of the Material Plane. This ordeal took an immense amount of power from the Prime Deities, forcing them into their own respective planes as well, though with far fewer restrictions.

The Age of Arcanists

When the elves dominated Wildemyst, the Prime Deities bestowed upon them the gift of magic, enabling them to achieve great feats and enhance the lives of all through arcane inventions. Some, however, interpreted their arcane prowess as evidence of their superiority over the gods and believed that with enough understanding, they too could attain the power of the gods themselves. This ambition drove many desperate mortals to seek the aid of the imprisoned Fallen Gods, gaining formidable but malevolent power through the minions of the Fallen Gods.   While the Prime Deities could only communicate with their followers through visions, they did grant some the ability to forge divine weapons in an attempt to counter the growing threat of heretics. In response, the Fallen Gods themselves crafted cursed weapons and artifacts for their cultists, most of which were intended for malicious purposes.

The Infernal Conquest

When the Fallen Gods managed to breach the veil between the Inner and Outer planes and invade Rhan, the Prime Deities did not initially intervene. For a brief moment, they wished to observe how well their creations fared against a genuine threat to their existence, utilizing both the magic and divine artifacts granted to them by the Prime Deities. Only when the majority of southern Wildemyst succumbed to the fiendish legions did the Prime Deities take action, initially sending down their angels and celestial servants. However, when the Fallen Gods themselves escaped their eternal prisons, the Prime Deities actively joined the battle.   Alongside mortals, celestials waged war against demons to protect the Material Plane from their corruption. A turning point in the war occurred on the Platin Isle, where the gods themselves clashed. Fortunately for all life on Rhan, the Prime Deities emerged victorious, though it would take centuries for the world to recover from the war. As a consequence of the war, many of the Prime Deities lost significant portions of their power and sustained grave wounds. Because of this, the Prime Deities swore to remain within their respective planes rather than actively intervening in the lives of mortals. Only through a select few devout followers would the magic and teachings of the Prime Deities continue to shine throughout Rhan.

Trivia

  • The Pantheon of Wildemyst is a mix between the Dawn War Deities, and inspiration taken from Norse mythology. The Prime Deities are the good and neutral-aligned deities of this pantheon.
  • Empyrion, Godking of Man is inspired by Talos/Tiber Septim from the Elder Scrolls universe. Similarily, Emperor Arterius Thran ascended to godhood following his death, for his legendary deeds during his lifespan.
  • It has been confirmed that the strength of each individual deity depends on the size of their following. While nearly all Prime Deities possess incredible power, there are some who are considered stronger than others due to their large following of mortals.
