The Order of Smoke

The Order of Smoke began at the end of the Age of Tyranny with Winneth Nessa, the recipient of the Third Gift and the first worshiper of The Lord of Smoke in millenia. The knowledge of crafting firearms came with knowledge about her new deity, and as the weapons spread, the faith spread. The Age of Smoke began with Wresnet established as a military theocracy, with the Order of Smoke at its head. This style was deemed necessary to complete the process of eliminating wizardry and establishing a new order. As time and progress marched on, however, the Order eventually ceded power and became independent. The Order of Smoke is still holds great sway over all aspects of government, but it is no longer the central power in charge. The primary duties of the Order of Smoke are twofold: act as moral compasses for the people, and hunt down errant magic users. The latter duty is carried out by members known to the general public as Witchfinders. When word of illegal magic is passed through the Order, usually through a minister of the church who learns of it through his flock, a Witchfinder will be dispatched posthaste to deal with the issue in whatever way is deemed necessary.
