Atharon
Otherwise known as the Land of Daemons, Atharon was once home to the most magically gifted race of the known world, the Daemons. Continuously attempting to push their power farther and farther beyond their limits, the Daemons eventually fell to the results of a magical experiment gone wrong. While the exact nature of the experiment has been lost in the following disaster it resulted in rifts to the lower planes randomly appearing and disappearing all over the continent. It is believed that the Daemons either all fell into the rifts and were lost to the lower planes or that the monsters that come from the rifts killed them all. Either way they serve as a warning for all magic users to be cautious. Due to the unpredictable nature and danger of the rifts found on this continent the bulk of the land has been deemed too dangerous to live causing the only settlements the continents have to be pushed to the shore. Constant monsters, fighting, and exposure to the lower planes have caused the continent to have a very wild and dangerous landscape riddled with the ruins of the Daemons.
The most notable of the ruin is found at the heart of Atharon, the citadel of Daemonspire. While built using the impressive techniques of the Daemons the architecture is not the cause of its fame. Daemonspire is famous, or rather infamous, as the source of the great calamity that befell the Daemons and torments the Continent to this day, the Rifts. From the top of the tower where the experiment was believed to be held to high in the sky is a massive rift that leads to the void between planes. While many believe that the way to stop the rifts is found here; the frequent rifts, numerous monsters, and the Titan that calls the valley the citadel sits home have made any and all expeditions to the citadel a suicide mission.
Travel around the continent is often done by sailing between settlements or to the closest shoreline to their intended location. This has led to an increase in pirates on and around Atharon.
