Personal history
Carver is the younger brother of Garrett and Marian Hawke, and fraternal twin to Bethany Hawke. After the death of his father, Malcolm, Carver started down a military path, and took part in the Battle of Ostagar, serving in the third company under Captain Varel. His fellow soldiers said Carver fought well, that they used him as a spear while they kept the darkspawn off his flank. He had to be dragged from the fight when Loghain Mac Tir's betrayal forced the Ferelden army into a rout. Carver returned to his family after the battle, and shortly thereafter, they had to flee to Kirkwall when the darkspawn attacked Lothering.
Carver spent a year working with his siblings to repay their passage into Kirkwall. He was particularly bitter once in the Free Marches city; he felt no connection to the city, and believed their mother, Leandra, was trying to force a past on the family that she had long left behind. Even so, Carver cares deeply for his family, and worked for their welfare in Kirkwall.
Carver's frustrations reached a boiling point when his siblings left him behind to stay with their mother during the Deep Roads Expedition. He left the family to join the Templar Order, believing it was his chance to prove himself. This caused an intense rift between Garrett and Carver, due to the former being an apostate mage - although Carver was resentful for being left behind from the expedition, he told Garrett he did not intend to reveal that his brother was a mage.
Carver truly found his calling within the Templar Order, though he was wary of the Order's extreme elements. During the First Battle of Kirkwall, he fought alongside Knight-Commander Meredith Stannard as she led a group of Templars in Hightown.
During this time, and while he was estranged from his family and mourning the loss of his twin to the Grey Wardens, Carver spent a good deal of time visiting Merrill in the Kirkwall Alienage, as she was the only one he felt he could talk to. Carver and Merrill truly connected during these years, and they began a romantic relationship, despite the fact Carver knew his order would not approve.
During the Kirkwall Rebellion in 9:37 Dragon, Carver supported his fellow Templars, who were tasked by Knight-Commander Meredith to annul the Circle of Magi. This further strained things between Garrett and Carver, with Garrett asking if he was willing to fight his own siblings. Carver stated that wasn't what he wanted, and began to have doubts about what he was being asked to do. Meredith reminded him of his duties as a templar, but when the Hawke Twins confronted Meredith, Carver - along with Knight-Captain Cullen Rutherford - sided with Garrett and Marian, stating that he would not murder his siblings for her.
Carver spent time in Kirkwall after the rebellion, helping the city guard keep order. However, when Templars began acting strangely, Garrett asked his good friend, Guard-Captain Aveline, to send Carver away from the Free Marches. However, Aveline was unable to locate Carver, and after speaking with Merrill, learned that Carver had left the city months prior.
Carver ended up under the Templars under the command of Lord Seeker Lucius Corin. When the Lord Seeker withdrew the Templars from the Chantry, Carver remained with them to Therinfal Redoubt. Carver was promoted to Knight-Captain after the explosion at the Divine Conclave. This was a position he did not feel ready for, and yet, he was eager to prove himself.
When Red Lyrium was introduced to the Templars at Therinfal, Carver partook, and quickly became addicted to the Red Lyrium. He managed to escape the fortress alongside a young templar recruit named Erik, and the two found their way to Raleigh Samson's Red Templar Order, serving under The Elder One.
Carver's whereabouts following the War Against The Elder One are unknown at this time.
