Queen Madrigal

Madrigal was the queen of Antiva. Her fame lies not in how she ruled — nothing is really known of her reign — but in her dramatic death.

Personal history

"During her reign, Queen Madrigal took part in a hunting excursion: a common noble and wealthy merchant past-time. After the hunt, festivities were planned and the queen's absence was noted. She was later found dead: stabbed through the chest by four veridium blades. One of the blades was a replica of the Blade of Mercy wielded by Archon Hessarian. Upon hearing of the assassination, visions of the murdered queen haunted the then-Divine Theodosia I in her sleep.   There was an investigation into the queen's murder, involving torturing and questioning the Antivan Crows. This bore no fruit and only created resentment between the nobility and the assassin's guild. Even under duress, Crows never revaled the name of any person who had hired them to murder the queen or even if they had any relation to what had transpired.   Supposedly, a letter claiming responsibility for Madrigal's assassination and bearing the seal of a group calling itself "the Executors" later appeared though most disregard this as false evidence and the group as merely fantasy.   There are also rumors that the Beast was involved. According to legend, Queen Madrigal had been informed of her son's impending death. When her son, Eladio, fell ill, the queen rode into the woods and bargained with the witch for her son's life. The final result was the queen being found with swords in her chest. Prince Eladio did eventually recover and succeeded his mother, though he vanished a year after his coronation."   — bardic tale regarding Queen Madrigal
