Humans

Humans are the most numerous, yet also the most contentious of all the races of Thedas. Never have they united united beneath a single banner, unlike many other races. The monotheistic faith of the Chant of Light plays a major role in human society. The majority of humanity in Thedas descended from numerous human tribes.
Though this number varies from nation to nation, humans generally live up to sixty-five years of age.

Major human nations in Thedas

Ferelden

Before Ferelden unified into its single nation thirty years ago, its people were known as the Alamarri. Alamarri lived in barbarian-like tribes that proudly ruled over their land. The skills of these people are just as diverse as their many ancestral tribes. Most clans had some mixture of strong barbarians, wielders of natural magic, and cunning scouts.
Their lives are not easy. They have had to fight tooth and nail to keep their way of life alive, particularly against invasions from Tevinters and Orlesians.
Outsiders would call Fereldens as hearty, proud, traditional, and freedom loving.

Free Marches

The citizens of the Free Marches are exactly that: free. They formed following the end of the First Exalted March. The country is much like Ferelden before they unified. Rules are looser here, in general, than they are in most other places. Life is left almost entirely up to the denizens of the nation with little government or law to halt daily life.

Orlais

Orlais is currently the most powerful nation in Thedas. Their history has been one of warmongering. They have lead many wars against other groups and nations, and have mostly succeeded in their endeavors. Their most notable group of warriors are the infamous Chevalier.
Their society isn't entirely of war, however. In their grand cities life is a complex dance of religion, fashion, art, and The Grand Game. All Orlesians either find themselves in a constant game for power, or dream of one day being apart of it.

Nevarra

Nevarra is the capital nation of the Chantry. Many people flock to this nation to serve a pious life devoted to the Maker. This seeps into a Nevarran's everyday acts and duties. For instance, even when travelling between nations, they still pray in the direction of the Grand Cathedral when the sun is highest in the sky every day.

Rivain

Rivain was once a nation of intellectuals. At its height, people from all across Thedas would make treks out to participate in the amazing discoveries that occurred in these lands. During the height of this nation's history, the goliaths landed on an north of Rivain. Not long after, the goliaths launched a brutal invasion into the Rivaini lands and invaded the vast majority of the country. The blitzkrieg-like offense launched by the goliaths left the Rivaini people unable to defend themselves until it was too late.
Eventually, the Templar Order in Rivain was able to command the remaining Rivaini folk in claiming back the land. However, most of Rivain's greatness had been destroyed in the wake of the battles. Ever since, the country has had little drive to pull itself back together and instead operates as small villages that work together on the occasion.
