Ikani
Merfolk are an amphibious species native to Alba and Erit. During the Age of Humanity, many were captured and brought to Varen, where they lived in aquariums, canals, and the occasional oasis. Most merfolk naturally communicate in a frequency few can hear, leading many to view them as "silent beauties." However, with practice, they can usually learn to speak in lower tones.

Anatomy
Merfolk can vary greatly in morphology depending on exact species, but they always have the upper body of a humanoid and a lower body resembling some species of fish.
Ecology and Habitats
Merfolk live in the water, and while they can beach for short periods of time, they will dry out and eventually die if not resubmerged. They thrive in Alba's interconnected lakes and rivers, and some unique species have developed on the more isolated islands.
