Nada Goldenbrew

The young daughter of Baringrel and Mayben Goldenbrew, Nada Goldenbrew turned forty years of age last month and is finally old enough to attend her family’s annual ball. She is extremely excited and a little bit nervous, but focuses her energy on designing the most fashionable gown for her debut. She is working closely with famed tailor and fashion designer Hengrot Nobleneedle to achieve the dress of her dreams. Unfortunately for her, some of the details she’s insisting on are woefully out of fashion, and even the diva Hengrot cannot talk her out of them. The dress will not be a complete disaster, but some of the ball’s more cruel attendants will speak poorly of it behind her back.   If a PC defends Nada against these bullies, they will make an enemy of the speaker - but word of their good deed will reach Nada shortly after the ball. She will reach out to the party within a few days, hoping to befriend her champions - blissfully unaware that they were behind the robbery of her family.

Befriending Nada

Nada is emotional, energetic, and a bit scatter-brained. If the PCs respond to her call, she has clearly been crying when they arrive, but she thanks the party profusely for standing up for her. She informs them of the robbery that took place during the ball and concludes it was most likely committed by someone(s) not in attendance, as the guests were all too wealthy to resort to such theft. That the party before her may have robbed her family does not even cross her mind, even if the PCs are forthcoming about their backgrounds. She then confides a damning secret: the portrait that was stolen is a forgery - the real one burned to ashes in a house fire two centuries ago. (Jaret Blackhand will be furious if this comes to his attention, though the forgery is quite convincing and can still be sold on the black market for a small fortune. Instead, he rips it to shreds in a fit of anger.)   Nada asks the party endless questions, eager to get to know her champions. She views everything they say with rose-colored glasses and glosses over any inconsistencies. If the party lied about their backgrounds during the ball but come clean to Nada, she is deeply amused by their “prank,” finding it to be harmless fun - after all, they were still legitimate Plus Ones to real guests.   If Nada is aware that the PCs are not wealthy, she offers to be a patron of sorts, too used to money to realize that such an arrangement might be offensive. The monthly sum she offers is substantive, and she only asks that the party visit her often in return - she is quite lonely after having found out that some of her “friends” have been talking behind her back. Whether or not the party accepts the money, befriending Nada earns them a powerful ally and a personal window into the world of gentry and nobility. As word of their relationship spreads, the party begins to receive their own invitations to dinners and balls, even events that Sanean and the Shattergut twins are excluded from. This can fast-track their career in the Thieves of the Hoard, but they must be careful - if their escapades are ever found out, Nada terminates the friendship immediately, and the upper echelons of society now recognize them on sight as manipulators and thieves.
