River Run

The citizens of Kofli have a deep respect for their river spirits, so much so that they devote an entire day a year to celebrating them. The River Run takes place in early spring, and marks the beginning of the planting season. A week prior to the holiday, fishing in the river is permitted.   Several festivities delineate the holiday. Most notably, the town is strung with blue and white banners, streamers, and other decor. Children fly kites decorated to look like colorful fish. Around midday, a parade of decorated boats and rafts float down the river through the middle of town.   Sweetfish from the Mastiv River are traditionally served for lunch or dinner, while rice cooked with river water is a typical breakfast for the day.   The holiday culminates in a "surfing" competition enabled by the spirits - in particular Old Bend - causing the river to swell. The winner of this race is considered to have been granted extremely good luck for the rest of the year, in particular with any harvesting, fishing, or other activities associated with the river.
