Ether

Ether is a magical force which permeates not only Thesilae, but all of the universe. It is the source of Everything: matter and energy, life and death, magic and mundanity.

Ether as Life

At the beginning of the universe, great clumps of Ether tangled together and formed non-living beings of pure Ethereal energy called the Primordial Spirits. Over the course of many billions or trillions or quadrillions of years (it can only be known to mortals that it was a very long time indeed), the Primordial Spirits crashed and slashed and scraped past one another, eventually converging. Their convergence, though a mere cosmic accident, created the first true Life in all of the known universe. This was the birth of Vimeri, the first of the Ethereal Gods. Unlike the Ether and the Primordail Spirits it formed itself into, Vimeri was conscious of the universe, and capable of creating new life intentionally. As were her children, the four Ethereal Gods she created from Ether she had gathered herself. And her children, benevolent and curious beings, gathered Ether themselves, which they used to create the world and give life to their beloved mortal creatures.

Ether as Magic

It can be argued that the creation of the world, and the gifting of life, are the purest ways in which magic can ever be performed. These are feats that mere mortals are incapable of- even the Ascended Gods, who were once mortals themselves, are incapable of creating new life. But Hasra has gifted to some mortals the ability to feel the Ether around them, and to twist it slightly, thereby performing magic themselves.
