Hasra, Matron of Magics
Hasra (/hæzɻaː/) is the goddess of magic, history, relics, and artifacts. She is worshiped by magic-users, historians, and scholars of all kinds.
History
The Age of Twilight
Hasra is the eldest child of Vimeri. Her mother wove her from the threads of Ether gathered from the Primordial Spirits as they passed by, after Vimeri had grown bored of her ages-long isolation in the void. After some time had passed, Vimeri created her other children (Lanush, Thesridan, and Niginni) working more quickly than she had while weaving Hasra thanks to her eldest daughter's magical assistance. Later, when Thesridan and Lanush granted life and death to Niginni's sculptures, thereby creating Thesilae and all the creatures on it, Hasra gave her own gifts. To the world, she gave magic. And to it's inhabitants, the ability to wield it.The Age of Dawn
During the Age of Dawn, Hasra communed with her followers infrequently, merely observing their actions from afar and occasionally providing aid in the form of gift or guidance. There was but one exception to this, and that was her favored worshiper, Ianna. Certain fragmentary texts imply that the two were involved in a romantic relationship, until Ianna turned on the gods and fell from Hasra's good graces. The Corruption of Ianna
When the world was still young, Hasra granted magic more liberally than she does today. It is widely believed that the restrictions she instills on spellcasters were put into place after the fall of Ianna, who became bitter and vengeful after failing to resurrect her poor brother Arild. Through lies and trickery, Ianna learned the secrets of necromancy from Hasra, and devised a ritual to drag her brother's spirit back from the Ether, and return it to his decaying form. Ianna believed, wrongly, that such an act would restore his body and mind to what it was before. When she attempted her ritual, Arild instead returned as a violent revenant. Ianna was slain by her brother's undead corpse, and with her dying breath she cursed the gods, becoming the evil goddess of illusions and lies in the process. The Age of the Sun
Perhaps in part to allow herself to remain the reclusive goddess she has always been, Hasra gifted mortal-kind with Vantrevus, a draconic demigod who the gods speak their prophecies through.Description
Appearance
Most renderings of Hasra depict her as a tall, svelte being with deep grey skin tinged a dark purple. Arcane runes are tattooed across her arms (presumably, these tattoos continue across her shoulders, as they disappear into the sleeves of her starlit robes). Her black hair is long, and twists into loose curls at the middle of her back. In some art, her hair goes on and on for miles, eventually merging into the starry night sky. Hasra wears only two pieces of jewelry- a thin silver chain at her waist, and the moonstone-encrusted circlet gifted to her by Agren. From the circlet hangs a dark shroud, which covers her eyes entirely.Personality
Hasra is a reclusive goddess, often withdrawing from the affairs of the mortal world entirely unless and until something threatens the stability of Thesilae's magical field. However, the legends which include her show that she is incredibly knowledgeable on a wide variety of subjects, and is happy to share her knowledge so long as she can be certain it will be used for the proper reasons.Worshipers
Of Vimeri's four children, Hasra is the least commonly worshiped. Her domain does not concern the common folk of Thesilae, most of whom have a limited education in reading, writing, and simple maths only. Her followers are more numerous in larger cities, where people have greater access to libraries and learning institutions. Historians are particularly drawn to her, but many scholars have a healthy respect for Hasra.Wizards
As Hasra is the goddess of magic, magic-users of all kinds worship her. Wizards, being of a more scholarly bent than other types of spellcasters, are most likely to worship her, however. Where most other gods have temples with clergy and paladins to enact their will, Hasra's "temple" is a university led by a circle of archmagi. Each archmagis serves as Thesilae's leading authority for whatever school of magic they specialize in. They can be identified by the color of their robe stoles, and the runes tattooed on the side of their neck.- Abjuration: Green
