Meiliang

Meiliang (/meɪliːaːng/) is the capital city of the Rhegar Empire, located in a large valley within the Komeri Highlands.

Description

The city of Meiliang has an unevenly segmented layout, with its various residents restricted to living within specific districts determined by proximity to the home of the Empire's Daisho. Water from the nearby Tailong River has been diverted to form a spiral-shaped moat which winds its way into the heart of the city and surrounds the grounds of Hakurojō (白露城), where the Daisho lives. The city is highly segregated, with the nobles of Meiliang living along the interior of the spiral moat and the commoners living along its outer curve.
In addition to the defensive capabilities of the moat, Hakurojō is also protected by an interior city wall that encompasses only its grounds. The remainder of the city is uncontained, but city law prevents its construction from sprawling out along the river.

Qū-Lao-Tengzhai

One of the innermost qū (区) of the city, where the members of the Lao-Tengzhai reside.

Qū-Hisui

The "Jade District", where the Hisui-no-Kizoku (翡翠の貴族) reside. These nobles were relocated from the capitals of their former nations, so they could be more easily monitored by the empowered class.

Qū-Kenotate

The largest of Meiliang's four qū, where the training compounds and dormitories of the Kenotate are located.

Qū-Jeomto

The "Clay District", where the common folk of Meiliang live. It is also referred to as the "Coin District" by travelers, due to its being the region of the city where goods and services are purchased or sometimes traded for. The buildings here tend to be tall and narrow, and are packed closely together so as to prevent a direct line of sight from here to Hakurojō.

As of 126 LE, the city of Meiliang has a population of 345,257 citizens. Roughly 35% of its population is human, followed by 32% elves, 18% gnomes, 7% catfolk, and 8% people of miscellaneous ancestries. At any given moment, roughly 35,000 to 40,000 people in Meiliang are members of the Kenotate.
