Zidovia

Zidovia is the capital city of Tor-Valice, located on a large plateau in the Louvain Gorge.

Description

Built atop the large plateau which splits the northern end of Louvain Gorge in two, Zidovia boasts a magnificent view of canyon's lush, tropical basin. It was originally meant to be the isolated site of Nadezhda Palace (the imperial palace of Tor-Valice's Grand Tsar), but rapidly expanded into a proper city as it became apparent that the royal family and their advisors required the many conveniences of city life. The city has naturally developed a crescent shape over the past several decades, following the edge of the plateau it is built upon.
Nadezha Palace is at the southernmost end of the city. It is large, composed mostly of white granite brick and limestone, with a gilded dome at its center and a belltower just behind it. The palace is by far the most ostentatious building in the city, adorned with hundreds of fine engravings and bronze filigree wherever the architect could manage it. Other structures in Zidovia follow after its fashion, but with a far lesser degree of wealth on display.
A large, 50-foot defensive wall was constructed around the city in 76 LE. The wall is made smooth granite, and is maintained with an almost religious ferfor. This is perhaps a bit unnecessary, however, as the royal guards of Zidovia are instructed to destroy both of the bridges over Louvain Gorge in the event of and attempted terrestrial invasion, which would effectively isolate the city from the outside world.
