Arbalest - Class Subspatial Starship
A very small Subspatial Starship of the Hyperion Federation. Like all Subspatial Starships, it can dive into higher dimensions, rendering it near undetectable by most equipment. While it is armed with either 2 size 10 High Energy Turret Hardpoints or 10 size 3 High Energy Turret Hardpoints, it can only use them while in normal space.
The Arbalest is only a very small starship. The HF classified it as a light destroyer, so considering the very large engines it was known for, the Arbalest class has an extremely large acceleration allowing it to reposition very quickly. Arbalest captains must still be careful, as these starships are not extremely well shielded or armoured for a HF starship.
Like in most HF military starships, power is generated through a highly efficient and powerful antimatter annihilation core which provides an extremely large quantity of energy. Although the ship only has a single antimatter annihilation core, it is particularly well armoured and reinforced, so the antimatter reactor often survives being hit... if the HF doesn't cause the ship to self destruct.
It is propelled through several very large photon thrusters which take up most of the surface area of the rear. The HF designed the ship to be extremely fast.
The Arbalest is often used to confuse enemies and flank them. By remaining dived until it reaches the desired location, it can catch almost any enemy by surprise especially with its sheer speed. If used in large numbers, Arbalests can bring a lot of firepower and be surprisingly survivable as they begin evasive maneuvers while under fire. Especially when paired with Electromagnetic Decoy Guns and holo projectors, they can be an exceptional tool for HF forces in deception, an important part of war.
