Polariton - Class Destroyer

A class of destroyer used by the Hyperion Federation military.
The Polariton - Class is in many ways similar to the Boson - Class Destroyer. It sports an array of large weapons and is very fast. However, the Polariton - Class does not have a spinally mounted Lance Cannon, so it has less firepower than a Boson. It also has a weaker shield, so it relies more on speed for its own protection. Despite this, it can still easily take an immense punch from primitive ships.
However, the Polariton is actually more recent than the Boson. It is, however, fitted with an advanced cloaking device. Using the cloaking device, it can very easily flank an enemy or attack by surprise, only to vanish shortly after. Leaving the enemy with a lot of damage, confusion and a vanished target. This more than makes up for the downfalls against the Boson - Class Destroyer. Many commanders use it unpredictably and to strike fear into the enemy.
However, there are countermeasures to cloaking. Most factions have inhibitor fields which can deep scan areas of space and potentially reveal cloaked craft to the fleet. Polariton captains know this and should avoid these fields at all cost. In the moments when a Polariton is revealed by these fields, they will likely retreat immediately. They are very careful.

Propulsion

It has a single, large photon thruster. This can produce a lot of thrust when powered with λ High-Energy Technology which makes the ship incredibly fast. It also has adjustment thrusters in various locations all over the hull which allow it to rotate and strafe in deep space. In orbit, they are often used to adjust the orbit quickly, with little notice For larger changes, the main engine should be used though.

Weapons & Armament

The Polariton is armed with 3 size 5 High Energy Turret Hardpoints and 8 size 2 High Energy Turret Hardpoints. These can be fitted with any HF weapon, giving the Polariton a high versatility similar to the Boson.

Armor and defense

It can be equipped with a significant electronic warfare suite allowing it to jam enemy sensors and comms and make them difficult to use. This task is typically left for the frontline ships of the HF because they have access to more turret mounts, though sometimes a Polariton might need to jam a target on its own. Protection comes mainly with its superior speed. If the pilot is highly skilled, or an AI is piloting the ship, it can easily evade enemy fire.
This coupled with missile softkill methods often placed in Ewar packages can make a Polariton a difficult target. A similar principle applies with the Boson. It also often features a number of Oblivion Assault Guns in small sized which are used as photon cannon CIWS weapons which target missiles and fighters. It relies on a hardlight shield, though one that is not extremely efficient.
If that is breached, its final layer of defense before taking internal damage is its armour which is comprised of TGX composite, but is very thin to save on weight. It would be practically impervious to most primitive starship armaments.

Sensors

The Polariton is powered by a highly powerful and advanced antimatter annihilation core built in the center of the ship to protect it.Like all HF military starships, it relies on a tachyon radar and can therefore detect objects as small as starships from many lightyears away, at only a few seconds delay. This is due to the extremely high superluminal velocity of low energy tachyons. This is because tachyons gain speed as they lose energy due to having imaginary mass.
