Carth
Peace is Always the Goal
The Carth are an ethnic group of humans that make up the majority of humans in the eastern lands of Utican. The Carth are an amalgamation of three cultures that joined during and following the Hellenistic rule of Utican. The Carth play a major role in several regions as the predominant Humnan culture in eastern Utican. The most populous Carthan city is New Polis in the Kato Plains. Several large Carthan communities exist in the Shifting Badlands, but many have been driven from these places by the growing threat posed by the Centaur Balic Horde. Although there are people who are ethnically similar to the Carth in New Hellena, they exclusively identify as Hellenistic and would not consider themselves to be Carthan.
Religion:
The Carthan People worship the Thinian (Human) Pantheon along with powerful elemental entities. Amongst the Thinian Pantheon, the most venerated deity is the Goddess Eldath. The worship of elementals is a holdover from the Pheonics that would merge with and become Carthan. The Pheonics believed that the elements kept the earth balanced and that natural disasters were the result of imbalances caused by monsters, supernatural entities, or humanoids. The Pheonics saw themselves as elemental stewards and thus produced a number of druids. This remains the case in the Carthan communities within the Free Hills.Carthan Heroes:
In Carthan culture heroes are most often those individuals who demonstrate the ability to bring people together toward a shared goal. Their heroes include diplomats, merchants, and warriors who are noted as unifiers. The greatest of these heroes is their cultural namesake Carth the Counselor. Carth was a New Hellena commander that engaged in good-faith negotiations with rebelling Pheonic tribes. Because Carth disregarded his orders to violently crush the Pheonic rebellion he was stripped of his post and exiled from New Hellena. Carth would not enter exile alone and left New Hellena with other human followers from the Tyren and Hellena cultures. Carthan lore says that Carth the Counselor was raised to be an Exarch/Demigod in service to Eldath. Carth is worshipped as a cultural hero.Naming Traditions

Culture
Major language groups and dialects
The primary dialect of the Carth is common. Due to their proximity to the Orc, Dwarven, and Leonin kingdoms, it is not uncommon for a Carthan to speak one of these languages.
Culture and cultural heritage
The Carth are an amalgamation of three Human cultures—notably the Tyren of Hartha, the Hellena of Hartha, and the Pheonics of Utican. In Utican, these three cultures came together, thanks in large part to the efforts of Carth the Counselor, and formed the new Carth peoples. While the Tyren and Hellena peoples still exist on Hartha, the Pheonics became part of Carth and were absorbed into the new culture.
Common Dress code
Due to the dry and tropical climates that most Carthan people live in it is common for Carth to wear light silk robes. It is common for Carthans to accent their otherwise monotone robes with a vibrant sash and headdress. Both men and women wear jewelry and piercings are common.
Art & Architecture
Carth architecture is predominantly influenced by Hellena. The largest Carthan city is New Polis. The city was initially constructed by the northern Hellena Expeditionary Force that came to Utican through the Unclaimed Lands. Stone and tile are the primary materials used to build. Many buildings implement columns for structural support and aesthetics.
Foods & Cuisine
Carth cultivates figs, mulberry, blackberries, pears, plums, peaches, and pomegranates, to name just a few. Equally important are their vegetables and legumes, like broad beans, peas, lentils, and chickpeas. Carth cuisine also includes protein from livestock including goats, chickens, and pigs. Carthan communities near major water sources incorporate fish into their diets.
Common Taboos
A major taboo amongst the Carth is to invite someone to settle a dispute and then attack or otherwise deceive them. This cultural taboo arose from the Carthan history of attempting to engage in diplomacy with New Hellena and their rulers only to be betrayed.
