House Balleas (Bal-Ee-As)

The Sea is Always Right

Introduction:

House Balleas is part of the Eupatridae, the ruling Orc Noble families within the Orc Domain. House Balleas rules over the Targhed Region. Targhed is a rocky coastal region. Targhed is a naval power that must contend with the pirates of Exgilios. The capital of Targhed is Anakitot. The head of House Balleas is Lady Shagra Balleas.

House Balleas Members:

Below are the current members of House Balleas;
  • Lady Shagra Balleas: The current head of House Balleas. Lady Shagra was elevated to the head of the family after she made a fortune trading with the Sea Dwarves of Penglai. Shagra swore to her mother she would avenge the death of her father.
  • Peer Rok Balleas: The eldest son of House Balleas. He grew up assuming he would succeed his mother as the head of House Balleas and was shocked when his sister was named the new Lady Balleas. Rok has since become a bitter and angry man.
  • Dutchess Shima Balleas: The former Lady Balleas and mother of Shagra and Rok. She abdicated her title and passed it to her daughter after her husband was killed by a pirate raid.
  • Sir Armren Keeneye: The husband of Lady Shagra Balleas. Sir Keeneye is a Sea Dwarf and his marriage to Lady Shagra is considered scandalous by many. Despite being married to Lady Shagra, Sir Keeneye was denied the title of Lord because he has no Orc ancestry. Sir Keeneye has a particularly volatile relationship with his brother-in-law Rok.
  • Shugo Balleas: The eldest son of Lady Shagra and Sir Armren. Shugo is a bulky Half-Orc known for his martial talents. Shugo loves his parents, but takes more after his mother.
  • Malor Balleas: The younger son of Lady Shagra and Sir Armren. Malor is a Half-Orc. He is smaller than his older brother but still larger and bulkier than the average human. Malor learned all the finer points of sailing from his father. Malor is considered one of the most capable captains in the Western Fleet.

House Balleas Supporters:

  • Banner Yori Foamaxe: A Sea Dwarf privateer who worked with Lady Shagra during her eastern travels. Yori was recently charged with governing the mining village of Feron and ensuring that iron production is maximized. Yori employs her old crew as her guards and agents.
  • Azar Chagadai: A Hobgoblin Druid in Exile from the Crimson Horde. Azar serves as Lady Shagra's advisor and spiritual guide. Azar is not liked by War Priest Bhok Hullbreaker.
  • Bhok Hullbreaker: An Orc Cleric of Ilneval. Bhok was the chief confidant of Dutchess Shima when she was the head of House Balleas. He still serves Lady Shagra, but has had his role diminished in favor of Azar Chagadai. Bhok openly resents Azar.
  • Banner Bor Garoll: A veteran Banner who served Dutchess Shima and now serves Lady Shagra. Many consider Bor to be a living legend and the pinnacle of what a banner should be. He has been assigned to the fortified port town of Khagornen. Bor is charged with combating the pirate threat from Exgillios.

Assets:

The primary asset of House Balleas is its navy known as the Western Fleet. However, this fleet is almost always entangled in battles with the pirates of Exgilios.   House Balleas has a small army based on it relatively low population. But, Lady Shagra has made many connections across the ocean and could potentially draw on support from her husband's Sea Dwarf Clan.

Beleifs:

House Balleas sees itself as an overlooked and oft forgotten Noble House. They believe that they have been left to handle the threat from Exgillios themselves without any help from the sanctimonious northern neighbors in Labrukk or their soft eastern neighbors in Lazgar.
