Cartor

The Island of Cartor is a large island of the greater archipelago of The Southern Isles.  Located in the northern portion of the archipelago just 200 miles south of the Bay of Nyst and on the western side of the Strait of Allen, it is an island 110 miles at its longest length and 50 miles wide, giving it a rough total of 5,500 square miles of surface area.  There are an additional 40-some smaller islands within 25 miles of the main island, all of which are politically controlled by Cartor but only four of which are large enough to support significant populations.  Cartor is, at its closest, only 44 miles from the mainland coast of the continent.   The island of Cartor is the main seat of power for the Cartoreen Amirate, a principality that rules Cartor and most of the surrounding islands as well as a significant stretch of the nearby mainland.
