Castel Chateone
Castel Chateone is the castle and residence of the Count of Dunmor, Ranald Dechateone. It is a large and extremely well-appointed castle, in keeping with the Count's high standard of living. Glazed windows, carved doorways, tiled floors and miles of tapestries and carpets. While still a defensible castle, the Castel is more a palace than a fortress.
Purpose / Function
Primary residence of the Count of Dunmor and his family.
Alterations
Located nearly a mile from the main gates of the City of Dunmor, the lands between Castel Chateone and the City are lush fields and pastures for the Dechateone family. This land was kept clear and undeveloped in centuries past for defensive purposes, but nearly one hundred years of peace has allowed the Dechateone family to turn the open, unused fields into productive and valuable farmland that is used to support the Count's household. Horses, sheep, cattle, pigs and poultry are all raised here, as well as wheat, barley, oats and vegetables.
Architecture
Tall towers with peaked slate roofs, a narrow stone bridge to the castle's main gate, and a partial wet moat surrounding the southern-most portion of the Castel's curtain walls.
Defenses
Thick outer walls are well maintained and manned by more than 120 men-at-arms. Mounted patrols keep the approach roads safe while ensuring the neighboring grounds are threat-free.
