Chapterhouse, Len Doa
The Chapterhouse at the Grand Temple, Len Doa is a relatively small suite of rooms within the temple complex that are dedicated to and used exclusively by the Order of the Swords of Heaven. At any given time of the year, there can be as many as 10 Knights of the Order in residence at the Grand Temple, and these Knights are led by the Chapter Captain Lancel Cuvier. Brother Lancel has an apartment and office within the temple complex that is exclusively his, and entrance to the rooms is strictly forbidden when he is not in residence.
The Chapterhouse does not have room for dedicated stables, but the Order has purchased a small stable just a few hundred feet to the east of the Chapterhouse for the Knights to house and feed their horses while in residence.
Purpose / Function
Office and residence of a small contingent of Knights of the Order of the Swords of Heaven and their Captain.
Design
The Chapterhouse of Len Doa is located in the western side of the lower level of the Temple Hospital within the Grand Temple of Len Doa complex. It is a suite of rooms located in the corner of the Hospital's cellar and is connected by hallways to both the kitchens and the baths of the Hospital. The suite is a large square common area (60' by 50') surrounded by cells for the individual Knights and rooms and offices for the Chapter's Captain, Sergeants, Chaplain and guests, as well as storage for arms and armor.
Denizens
When the Order is in residence, there can be as many as 9 indivudal Knights, two Sergeants and a Master Sergeant, a Chaplain and (of course) the Chapter Captain.
Contents & Furnishings
The Chapterhouse is sparsely furnished but amazingly clean. The flagstone floors are spotless and always dust-free. Tables are scrubbed and polished to a smooth shine. The common room is lit with three large mirrored oil lamps suspended from the ceiling and when the weather is particularly cold, braziers are lit in the room's corners to bring needed warmth. Knight's cells are small (10' by 16') with single beds, a stool and table and a chest for clothing. The common room also has a large ornately-carved cabinet against the outside wall of the cellar that contains a number of shrines to the Pantheon for the Knights to offer prayers and oblations to the gods.
Valuables
Whenever the Chapterhouse is occupied, the Knights bring with them several small but very sturdy and secure chests that contain holy relics of the faith. Two in particular are of exceeding value: a magical sword with a hammered gold hilt that is rumored to be able to cut through any dragon's hide no matter how thick or armored, and a small (5 oz) crystal vial containing a clear liquid that is said to be the tears of the godess Verna herself. A single drop from this vial into a container of water will produce an instant cure to the acidic bile that Black Dragons can expel onto their victims. This vial of Verna's Tears is still more than three quarters full, meaning there is enough Tears left in the vial for 2,000 cures.
In addition to the relics, there is another strongbox that contains 700 Northern guilders ($87,500) in gold coin and 250 Northern silver shillings ($1,500). Both the reliquaries and the money box are the responsibility of the Chaplain.
Defenses
The Chapterhouse has one entrance from the outside of the Hospital building, and two other entrances from inside the building's cellars. All three of these entrances are locked with mechanisms of such exceeding strength and complexity as to be nearly impossible to open without the proper keys. Entrance to the Chapterhouse in the absense of the Order Knights is strictly and absolutely forbidden.
