Ranolk

The largest island in the Olkair archipelago

Ranolk, the largest island within the Olkair Islands archipelago, sits imposingly in the heart of the Great Ocean, a craggy monument to nature's raw power and inherent beauty. Known for its mountainous terrain, the island is dominated by the formidable, semi-active Olkair Volcano, which occasionally dusts the landscape with a fine layer of volcanic ash.   Unique amongst its sister islands, Ranolk's towering peaks, including Mount Crystalmaw and Veil's Pinnacle, often sport a cap of snow, providing natural water sources for the island. The abundance of water, coupled with the fertile volcanic soil, allows for pockets of lush vegetation to flourish amidst the otherwise harsh terrain.   However, Ranolk's natural beauty belies its harsh, rugged conditions. The terrain is a patchwork of jagged rocks, steep cliffs, and rugged valleys. Its remote location in the Great Ocean and challenging landscape make Ranolk a formidable place to inhabit.   Despite its harsh conditions, Ranolk is home to Port Avernus, the only recognised town within the Olkair Islands. Nestled in a natural harbour on the island's eastern coast, Port Avernus is a vibrant, bustling settlement, albeit steeped in lawlessness. Here, under the banner of the dominant Slavers Guild, a range of activities take place, from everyday commerce to clandestine dealings. The Slavers Guild not only conducts business but also provides protection to the town's residents, creating a unique power dynamic.   The town operates under a local government headed by a mayor, elected by Port Avernus's residents. This elected leadership provides some semblance of order within the otherwise turbulent dynamics of the island.
