Stoneheart Family

The royal family of Eldorath

The Stoneheart family is deeply rooted in the ancient history of Eldorath, a mountainous region in the former Kingdom of Theron. With a legacy interwoven with the art of metalwork, druidic traditions, and the guardianship of their ancestral lands, the Stoneheart name has become emblematic of resilience, honour, and the enduring spirit of the rugged terrain.   The lineage traces back to King Tharald Stoneheart, the first King of the Mountain around 200 BRE.   The family was originally known as the House of Stoneheart, but due to the partible inheritance system deeply rooted in the druidic faith, the family's titles and lands were divided among Tharald's descendants. A cadet branch of the Stoneheart family, the Ironpeak Family, arose when Orin Ironpeak the title of Lord of Ironpeak which included Ironpeak Stronghold and the surrounding areas in 62 BRE, while his older brother Haldor inherited the title of King of the Mountain.   The title of King of the Mountain was disbanded in 25 BRE and the main line of the Stoneheart family gradually faded. The Ironpeak family, as direct descendants, continued to hold the title of Lord of Ironpeak and became vassals of the King of Theron.   In 325 RE, with the collapse of the Kingdom of Theron, Balinor Ironpeak reinstated the ancient title of King of the Mountain. With the blessings of the druids and a claim to the heritage of the ancient Kings, Balinor Stoneheart renamed his dynasty Stoneheart to honour the ancient lineage.

Structure

Balinor Stoneheart (born 299 RE), the self-proclaimed King of the Mountain, is the patriarch of the family. He is a descendant of the Ironpeak cadet branch, which is in turn a branch of the ancient House of Stoneheart. Renowned for his strategic acumen and unyielding determination, he wears an iron-banded crown adorned with intricate engravings that reflect both his royal status and connection to the mountains.
Ayla Stoneheart, Balinor's wife, is a symbol of strength within the family. Her wisdom and unparalleled archery skills have earned her the moniker "Hawk's Eye." A devout follower of the druidic faith, Ayla is deeply connected to the land and shares Balinor's commitment to protecting their mountainous realm.   The couple has three children:
  • Ronan Stoneheart (born 325 RE) - Ronan is the eldest son and expected heir to the title King of the Mountain. Courageous and fiercely loyal, Ronan is adept in mountaineering, survival, and tracking, and is dedicated to exploring and safeguarding the mountains. His training is also centered around learning the skills needed to be the future King of the Mountain
  • Elara Stoneheart (born 328 RE) - Elara brings intellectual prowess and a mystical connection to the family. Gifted with the ability to commune with nature, she serves as the family's spiritual guide and healer. Elara is particularly close to her mother, Ayla, and is an adherent of the druidic faith.
  • Thane Stoneheart (born 331 RE) - Thane, the youngest, is expected to inherit the title of Lord of Ironpeak. Thane possesses natural diplomacy skills, excelling in negotiations and fostering alliances. A master swordsman and an exceptional horseman, he is being groomed to oversee the Ironpeak Stronghold and the surrounding lands, ensuring their prosperity and protection.

History

The family's ancestral home, Ironpeak Stronghold‌, is nestled at in the foothills of Ironpeak Mountain‌, the towering mountain that dominates the region. Known for its metalworks, quarries, and mines, the Stoneheart domain holds a virtual monopoly on iron extraction, serving as the primary supplier to the rest of Theron.   Stoneheart Keep, located in the capital city of Aquila, serves as the administrative and political centre of the realm. Balinor chose to rename his dynasty after this historic stronghold, symbolizing the rebirth of the royal lineage.
