Frudop
Frudop is an interesting case of a historically disdained and looked down on people that rose to greatness when only an opportunity was presented to them. The Grung took the lands of Frudop when they found them empty without any warning from the people that once lived there, the Loxodon. Although the Loxodon used to rule a vast kingdom in the region, spreading over several now different countries these people were long lived but cruel and oppressive, caring more about the wisdom of stories than what was happening in the present. They regularly used slave races of the Grung, Halflings, Humans and anyone that wasn't Loxodon, but then one day in 513AE all of the Loxodon within the lands of their Empire vanished overnight. Tales of this event vary, with some reporting a sudden disappearance, and other reporting a vast magical catastrophe that sent writhing and screaming Loxodon's off the face of the planet. Either way, the Grung, once slaves but now free, found the still built and recently inhabited cities that surrounded the rivers they called home empty for the taking, and so they took solidifying their rule as a new Kingdom of the Grung.
The Grung have developed a cadre of poisons and special alchemical substances to rival those of Ophidium. A large majority of the martially focused Grung, such as guards or members of the military, practice different forms of the Monk traditions. Their own methods involve integrating poison into their strikes, which seeps into the skin of their enemies. The grung also practice atypical siege warfare, instead of using battering rams or other engines of war to attack the gates and walls, they instead use trebuchets to expose cities to poisonous clouds, and sending their own troops into the water sources of the enemy, lying in wait to strike or using their presence there to poison such wellsprings.
The Grung rule over a breadbasket of natural resources with peat bogs, rivers teeming with fish and other wildlife, and fertile soil that makes them a major exporter of food to the peoples around them, one of their major trading partners being the Yunei Riverlands, which ships the food throughout the world. This fertile region is the homeland of a rare type of ancient fish, whose roe is considered a delicacy worldwide, and the preservation method used is a closely guarded secret by the Grung.
Fauna & Flora
Venomvine
The Venomvine is a unique and deadly plant that thrives within the lands of Frudop. It is known for its vibrant green foliage and coiling tendrils, which conceal a potent venom within their sap. The plant's appearance is both mesmerizing and treacherous, reflecting the nature of the Grung kingdom itself.
The Venomvine's leaves are serrated and jagged, resembling the fangs of a venomous serpent. They glisten with a toxic hue, ranging from vivid lime green to deep emerald. The plant's vines grow with remarkable speed, entwining around nearby structures and vegetation, making it a formidable presence within the kingdom.
When disturbed or threatened, the Venomvine releases a noxious cloud of spores that permeates the air, creating an atmosphere of danger and caution. The venomous spores can cause severe respiratory distress, paralysis, or even death to those unfortunate enough to inhale them. As a result, the Grung have learned to navigate and harvest the Venomvine with utmost care, harnessing its toxic properties for their alchemical endeavors.
Serpentongue Toad
The Serpentongue Toad is a remarkable amphibian species native to the marshlands and peat bogs of Frudop. It is known for its distinct appearance and a unique adaptation that aligns with the Grung's expertise in poisons and alchemy.
The toad has a stout body covered in mottled green and brown skin, allowing it to blend seamlessly with its surroundings. Its most striking feature is its long, slender tongue, reminiscent of a serpent's, which it uses to capture prey with exceptional accuracy and speed. The tongue is coated in a potent toxin secreted by the toad's salivary glands, rendering its strikes both deadly and efficient.
The Serpentongue Toad has developed an innate resistance to its own venom, allowing it to safely consume poisonous insects and other creatures as part of its diet. The Grung have recognized the toad's unique properties and have integrated it into their alchemical practices. The venom of the Serpentongue Toad is often harvested and used in the creation of potent poisons, medicinal concoctions, and alchemical solutions employed by the Grung.
