Tiriande, the Imprisoned City
Tiriande, also known by its official name Sar-Vistu, is the largest (and, at present, only) city in the Dungeonscape, and the center of the Kingdom of Tiriande. Built around the base of the Dungeonspire of Ethrenna, the city spans four levels, 2200 square kilometres, and an estimated 2 million souls as of present day, 1499 DR.
At the height of the Tiriandan Golden Age, prior to the Vent, the nation was home to an estimated 8 million, 5 of which lived within the myriad levels and districts of the Imprisoned City.
Founding
In -430 DR, a band of adventurers led by the human Tiriande found themselves trapped in a seemingly endless dungeon after disappearing on a quest. Unable to find a way home, they formed alliances with a clan of orcs and a tribe of merfolk, founding an outpost that would, over the next few decades, grow into a village known then as Sar-Vistu - Netherese for Basecamp. The kingdom of Tiriande that grew around it eventually became synonymous with the city, leading to most using that name for it and the official "Sar-Vistu" only being used on legal documents. The central Dungeonspire that now dominates the Sar-Vistan landscape is unmentioned in what remains of the original party's records, not appearing in historical documents until centuries later.Description
The Imprisoned City of Tiriande is a sprawling metropolis of varied architecture and environments. On the Foundation level, it surrounds the base of the Dungeonspire, central roads leading out from its entrances like the spokes of a wheel. Arms of residential and farming districts straddle the coast of the lake of Tranquil Depths, and an underwater district populated primarily by merfolk and aquatic elves occupies part of that inland sea's floor. Houses are built inside the remnants of underground dungeons in Poisondredge and cling onto the sides of the enormous stalagmites of the southwest. In the shadow of the spire's base, ancient and majestic temples, grand mansions and spiraling towers form the walled Spireside district. On the Slopeside level, clusters of buildings rise from the slopes of the mountains and cliffs that lead up to a mesa where an industrial district shies away from a verdant forest's edge. On the Boneyard level, hanging over the Foundation level far below, the opulent mansions of Exotist traders and their caravanserai contrast against the ramshackle houses of The Downtrodden.Demographics

Government
As the capital of the kingdom of Tiriande, Sar-Vistu is ruled by the Tiriandan Royal Family and a high nobility of dukes and marquis.
Defences
The central Spireside district boasts tall, magically warded walls, but the outer districts of present-day Tiriande are otherwise unprotected by bulwark or magical defenses, said protections having been lost to dungeonization in the Vent. Instead, its outer rings are patrolled by the guild of Hatcheteers, supplemented by Spirewarden paladins and privately contracted adventurer parties.
