Ameias (Ah-may-us)
The "Republic of Ameias," or Ameian Empire as it is known to the rest of the world, is the singular most powerful force in all Tirros, a highly advanced nation based on technological development, a state-controlled democracy, and conquest. Originally established on the western landmass of Greater Ameias, through conquest they have now expanded to conquer and colonize most of the territory west of the Barrier Mountains.
With its focus on science and technology, Ameias is responsible for many of the biggest innovations of the last hundred years, some of which they trade and share with the rest of the world, and others they keep to themselves, to preserve their position as the dominant power. They are generally feared and disliked by the other kingdoms, though they maintain a fragile peace out of fear and necessity, and recent further encroaching conquests have raised concern particularly among the Dalish.
There are several different branches of the Ameian military, including the Billmen, the Navalmen, the Aeromen, and of course the legendary Conquisitors.
Society
Ameian society is highly structured and hierarchical, though they make distorted claims of social mobility and meritocracy. On the surface it is a parliamentary democracy, where elected officials serve on a Parliament that votes on and passes legislation. However it is not a true democracy, in that it limits power to those they consider "True Ameian."Culture
Ameian Culture is highly influenced by wider Arthan cultural beliefs and traditions. However they have regionally developed a number of significantly unique traditions and ideologies.Torilism
One of the biggest influences on Ameian culture is Torilism, a philosophy established by the legendary inventor / philosopher Mattrin Toril. Torilism teaches about order and matter, the law and truths of the physical world and how the worthy may master it, and that all esoteric beliefs of things beyond energy and matter are mere illusions. This philosophy has shaped much of Ameian ideology and tradition.Conquest and Supremacy
The ideology of Torilism, with its atheistic disdain of esoteric and/or spiritual beliefs, as well as the concept of "mastering" the world of energy and matter, have contributed greatly to a strong vein of supremacy among Ameians. Many Ameians view other peoples of Tirros as primitive and inferior, and needing to be "Saved" by Ameian colonization. It is this ideology which fuels their conquest.Military
The "Glorious Army of the Republic" are some of the most highly trained and equipped soldiers in all Tirros. Recruited and trained from a young age, serving in the Ameian Army is a way for many lower class Ameians to gain a degree of social mobility. by Shanyar
Billmen
The billmen are the backbone of the Ameian military, the main body of foot soldiers and land troops. They are called such due to their main armament, the billhook, a mass produced polearm outfitted with a hook for dismounting enemy cavalry. They are typically armored with simple breastplates and domed helmets, and also may carry crossbows.Navalmen
The navalmen are the Ameian navy, manning their great Warships. As Greater Ameias is sea-locked from the rest of Tirros, these warships are their greatest tool for conquest. Navalmen are often armored similar to billmen, and equipped with ranged weapons such as crossbows or Arquebus, and saber sidearms.Aeromen
Governing over such a vast distance as the Ameian colonies is no easy task. One method of getting messages, supplies and troops from one corner of the Empire to another is by Aeroship, a large reinforced air balloon. Special troops deployed from such aeroships are called Aeromen. They are often armored similar to billmen, and equipped with ranged weapons such as crossbows or Arquebus, and saber sidearms.Conquisator
The Conquisitors, a conflation of "Conqueror" and "Inquisitor," are the ultimate symbol of Ameian military power. Highly trained warriors somewhat akin to a Dalish Knight, Conquisitors are the generals, commanders, and elite warriors. They are also known by their enemies for their cold ruthlessness and often cruelty. Conquisitors are fully armored with highest quality Ameian Plate Armor and favor the Poleaxe and Arquebus as their weapons of choice, as well as saber sidearms.
