Fireworks

The firework hit a nearby tree trunk and exploded, sending colorful sparks raining down everywhere while Donnie was flung to the ground. Raph flinched with a hiss as some of the embers stung his arms and legs.

“Ow!” Mikey yelped, brushing the embers off as fast as he could. “Did– Was that a firework? Did they just shoot fireworks at us?”

“Donnie!” Leo scrambled out from under Raph and stomped out some of the embers catching on the forest floor. “Shit!”

“You okay, Don?” Raph asked, rubbing a particularly bad spot on his arm as he stood.

Donnie sat there a moment, eyes wide, shaking as the echo of the blast reverberated in his skull. He bumped the heel of his palm against the side of his head for a moment, trying to relieve some of the pain crawling under his skin because of the screaming, fireworks, and music.

“Y-yeah, just… Just give me a minute,” Donnie managed to get out, standing. He took a few breaths, trying to ground himself, but his breaths were shallow and heavy.

He could hear everything . Leaves curling and cracking as embers burned through them, Casey’s shouting, the Purple Dragons screaming, the loud music bass beating through his bones, fireworks going off, firecrackers popping, bottles being thrown, each thump of every footstep, the heavy breaths of his brothers, the faint hiss in Raph’s chest, his own heartbeat pounding.

Every. Single. Sound.

“We don’t have a minute Donnie,” Leo shouted. “Help Casey!”

Raph didn’t need any further prompting; he sprinted for the fight, leaping up and kicking off two Dragons that had pinned Casey to the ground. Casey scrambled back to her feet, back to back with Raph.

The shouts and screams were familiar. Fear and confusion, shouts of a monster, of a costume, of a freak.

Raph only charged them, sais guarding his fists as his punches landed in faces, in stomachs, on chests, breaking noses, cracking ribs. Mikey swept in from the trees, using his agility to bounce around his opponents, striking before they could turn to fully face him. Leo rushed in, blocking hits before he hit back twice as hard, lunging at anyone who came close enough to try and throw a punch or hit him with a bottle.

Donnie’s mind swam as he tried to focus on the fight he was joining. Extend the bo into the solar plexus, strike on the fibular lateral ligament.

Just tune it out , he tried to remind himself.

Synopsis

The Purple Dragons invade the turtle's territory to hold their annual rager in the forest, complete with illegal fireworks. The turtles intervene to prevent them from burning the woods down, but it turns into a chaotic night time fight in the middle of the party, leading Donnie to have a meltdown.   When the forest catches on fire, Donnie has to reconnect with his own emotions, which allows him to use Godai for the first time and put out the fire.
