Old Forest Reservoir
The Old Forest Reservoir is a water reservoir located in the Rockefeller Contamination Zone contamination zone, that a local water source for some time until it was discontinued in 2009 after the area was contaminated with Mutagen.
Purpose / Function
The reservoir was initially designed to collect water from the rain drainage systems from the city to be used during the drier seasons.
Architecture
The reservoir itself is fairly simple, a small concreate wall separates it from the rest of the river like a dam, with overflow points that allow it to flood into the river during rainy periods. It rests along a cliff side, where a large sewer pipe empties rain water into it. These pipes are made from brick concrete and are large enough to fit a person. They leaf off into other run-off pipes throughout the woods, but also can be traversed for several miles. Currently, there is a hole leading to an abandoned subway station farther up the pipe.
History
The reservoir was in regular use for the neighboring city for a little over 20 years, until 2009, when an unknown space craft crashed in the area neaby. The ship had dumped a massive shipment of Mutagen canisters before crashing. Those canisters rained down on the forest floor, many breaking open on impact, while many more fell into the reservoir, caught by it's pool of water. As soon as the incident was reported, the water line to the city was shut down due to the high risk of contamination from whatever had fallen from the sky.
Dozens of canisters would sit at the bottom of the reservoir for years, as the area surrounding it was quarantined off from the public. The dam separating it from the river would start to give way due to disrepair, and heavy rainstorms would send highly contaminated water flooding into the river.
It is dangerous to be around, as the water causes an increase in Mutant activity, but it's currently the best way for the turtles to sneak into the city undetected.
