Fractal Fog

A natural - and also magical - weather pattern that occurs on The Fracture. When high tide occurs at the edges of The Divide, the ocean water pours into the canyon adding to the rivers at the bottom. The heat and humidity created at the bottom causes much of the sea water (now river water) to evaporate, which then becomes the Fractal Fog.
The fog moves to the top of the network of canyons hiding the edges of the cliffs, making it very dangerous to explore. Most explorers and travelers have avoided the fractal fog throughout history as those who go in, never come out. However, after banishment The Kindred found a way through the fog, and built a city in the canyons, using the fog as a natural protection.
Unbeknownst to all (including the Kindred - until they first left their land to go back to the Wulaaser) the fog actually slows time and aging for those it engulfs. Therefore, the leaders of the tribe (the original children) are now over 200 years old, but only look like they are in their 50-60's (a fact that will later mock the Prince of Youth, who cannot stay young). The fog's lightning storms are extremely beautiful and seem to ricochet within the fog's clouds, giving it its name. Those encompassed by the fog, are not harmed by the lightning. The Kindred have harnessed it and trained themselves to expel it through the sand as mini-storms, weapons, and sand manipulation called Snake Glass.
