History

Royal truth

The Kingdom of Whiteshore was established to address Northlander independence demands, but soon they rebelled, leading to the War of the White Gold. After their father, the king Olva, is killed by Orrin Empire soldiers and their older brother Hakon Olvason is captured, siblings Harald Olvason and Esther Olvadottir flee south, hiding in the Orrin Empire. They work undercover as handymen and are eventually hired by Leonardo Troubleback, who introduces them to various jobs. Ambroise, the new emperor of the Orrin Empire, celebrates his ascension with a ball, but Harald, disguised as a noble, is implicated in a murder orchestrated by another noble. Esther and Harald are summoned by Ambroise Hart, who confronts them about their involvement. Catherine Hart, widow of the true emperor Alexander Hart, intervenes, saving them from execution and assigning them the task of killing a monster. After slaying the monster, they discover Hakon imprisoned. Their plea for his release is denied, leading to their own imprisonment. Catherine and Leonardo help Esther escape, and they set out to find Alexander. During their journey, they rescue a Fairy named Azaela and evade Whiteshore soldiers. Eventually, they reach the Frosthold Mountains and the Golden Five, where Alexander agrees to pursue peace. Esther faces her brother Harald, now possessed by a Dao and turned into an earth demon. She reluctantly kills him to end the threat. Alexander reclaims his throne and has Ambroise executed. Esther becomes queen of Whiteshore, with Leonardo as her royal advisor, and her child marries Alexander and Catherine’s child, solidifying an alliance between their realms.

Child queen

Sitting upon the throne of Whiteshore, the Child appears an unlikely ruler. Though she is only 8 years old, the kingdom’s crown rests easy upon her head. When her father was assassinated, it was assumed by many within the court that he had no heirs. The head of one of the capital’s guilds, long thought to conceal a den of thieves and murderers, stepped forward with a young woman that he claimed was the late king’s daughter.   The Crown of Whiteshore is known to allow only those of the royal bloodline to bear it, and when The Child was coronated without incident, the kingdom accepted her as their ruler. Though all acknowledge that she has acted wisely beyond her years, there are unsavory aspects to her reign that began at its outset. The guild of her adoptive father has begun to use her influence to thwart the ambitions of its rivals. Corrupt bureaucrats have been allowed to act with impunity and there are a number of fanatical agents of the crown that violently punish those that speak out against the crown’s rule.   Ryel, the royal advisor in closest confidence to The Child, has begun to suspect that the crown might bear a curse. In many negotiations, she seems to be listening to some unheard voice and her edicts have a harsh edge at odds with her normally cheerful demeanor. In addition, those faithful to the court that have been awarded with special rings display an unquestioning devotion to The Child. Local rumors and legends seem to bear out Ryel’s suspicions, and he is increasingly desperate to find a way to end the influence of this artifact which he has come to refer to as the Whispering Crown.   Ryel, has begun to unravel the secrets of the Whispering Crown. He suspects that there may be other heirs that might be better able to resist the influence of the crown. Ryel reached out to adventurers to ask them to track down these lost siblings. The clues lead to the guild of her adoptive father.   After a long and dangerous journey, the adventurers uncovered the truth about the Child and the spell controlling her. They discovered that The Child was actually a simulacrum, under the control of her adoptive father. With the help of the adventurers, Ryel was able to break the enchantment on the Crown and claim his rightful place as the new king of Whiteshore.   Since this incident, the crown's spell only allowing people of royal bloodline to wear it was broken.

Last queen

Centuries later, a dragon named Feth'razaal Goldenhide accessed the throne, the people of Whiteshore hoping the dragon's wisdom would lead their kingdom to a new age of glory. However, Feth'razaal revealed herself to be a greedy leader, demanding golden tribute from her subjects. In time, however, her hunger for power and wealth surpassed her subjects' ability to pay homage, especially with the lack of gold mine, and she exacted tribute another way: by claiming the souls of the dead. As her once-great realm fell into decline, Feth'razaal hoarded more and more souls until she was visited by Asmodeus, Lord of Hell.   Feth'razaal left the kingdom to decay, abandoning her throne, but it was already too late, the kingdom failed to rise again and collapsed into numerous independant clans of northlanders.
