History

Esther Olvadottir is the daughter of the recently appointed king of the northern kingdom of Whiteshore. After her father is killed by soldiers of the Orrin Empire and her older brother Hakon is captured, Esther and her brother Harald flee south, hiding in the very empire responsible for their family's demise. Living under false identities, they work as handymen for wealthy merchants and nobles.   The siblings are hired to find the lost daughter of a wealthy merchant, a task they successfully complete. This leads them to meet Leonardo Troubleback, a mysterious man who offers them various jobs. Esther and Harald grow close to Leonardo, especially Harald, though they continue to conceal their true identities.   Ambroise, now emperor of the Orrin empire after the recently anounced death of Alexander, hosts a grand ball to celebrate his ascension. Leonardo is approached by a noble fearing for his life, and Harald is disguised as the noble to protect him at the ball. However, a guest is murdered during the event, and the true plot is revealed: the noble used Harald’s disguise to kill his enemy, leaving the siblings entangled in the crime.   Later, Esther and Harald’s actions lead them to an audience with Emperor Ambroise, who confronts them about the murder they are falsely accused of. Thanks to the intervention of Catherine Hart, the wife of the rightful emperor Alexander, they escape the death penalty. To repay this clemency, they are tasked with killing a fearsome monster. Before they depart, Catherine reveals to Esther that Alexander is still alive and that his brother Ambroise has usurped the throne.   After slaying the monster, Esther and Harald, now hailed as heroes, visit a prison where they discover their brother Hakon. Harald pleads for his release from Ambroise, but their request is denied. After a failed attempt to blackmail the emperor, both are imprisoned. Catherine and Leonardo manage to orchestrate Esther’s liberation, but Hakon and Harald remain captive. Esther and Catherine flee and set out to find Alexander, hoping he can free Hakon and Harald.   On their journey, Esther rescues a fairy named Azalea from an unjust execution. Azalea decides to join them to repay her debt. Together, they eventually reach Alexander and the Golden Five, a group of powerful dragons. However, Alexander, due to his reunion with Catherine, decides to abandon the war and return home. Doraka, a silver Dragon, agrees to help on the condition that all parties commit to peace.   To gain Doraka's assistance and end the war, Esther agrees to take the throne of Whiteshore. Doraka informs her that she must face one final trial: to defeat the "Earth Demon," who is actually her brother Harald, now possessed by a freed Dao. With a heavy heart, Esther faces her transformed brother. When he threatens Azalea’s life, Esther instinctively intervenes, accidentally killing Harald. Before dying, Harald briefly regains control to thank his sister.   With Harald's death, the war ends. Alexander returns to the empire and has Ambroise executed for treason. Esther becomes the queen of Whiteshore, with Leonardo as her royal advisor, while Hakon retires to live a simple life. Finally, to solidify peace, Esther’s child, Aldric Estherson, marries the child of Alexander and Catherine, Skyler Hart, forging a lasting alliance between Whiteshore and the Orrin Empire.   Esther raised Aldric with a fierce loyalty to his people, and he was promised to Skyler Hart early on, as their union would make secure an alliance with the Orrin empire.
