Mountaingate War
The Mountaingate war was a conflict between the dwarves and the refugees, survivor of the great exctinction that resulted in the temporary loss of the major dwarven city, and the closing of the gates of Montmend, the mountain city of the House Frozen.
History
The roots of the Mountaingate War could be traced back to the aftermath of the Great Extinction. Refugees attempted to seek shelter in Montmend, the mountain city of House Frozen and the main stronghold of the Ice-peak Concord, the realm of the dwarves. High King Duncan Frozen faced a difficult decision as resources within the underground city were limited. He chose to refuse entry to the refugees in order to preserve the survival of all dwarves within Montmend. In 1040 BD, as the last remnants of their stockpiled supplies were rapidly dwindling, Duncan ordered the gates of Montmend shut to the outside world, leaving the refugees to face harsh winters and devastating plagues on their own. Despite their requests for aid, Duncan was unable to provide assistance, leading to tensions and grievances. In 1033 BD, Refugee Reghar Fireforge sought a resolution to the dire situation and met with Duncan. However, their discussions escalated into a heated argument, and no solution was reached, further deepening the divide between the dwarves and the refugees. In 1031 BD, the human warrior Kovintus led his army into the Frosted Heights and encountered the desperate refugees led by Fireforge, who sought to join Kovintus' forces. Kovintus was a survivor of the Great Extinction, and he had witnessed the devastation it had caused. Determined to find a safe haven, he saw Montmend as an ideal location. In 1030 BD, the combined army of Kovintus and the refugees marched towards Montmend, clashing with the forces of High King Duncan in a long and bloody battle, the Battle of Montmend. In the end, the forces of Kovintus emerged victorious, breaking through the gates of Montmend and sacking the city. Duncan was killed in the battle, and Kovintus took control of Montmend, declaring himself High King and ruling with an iron fist. The refugees were allowed to stay in Montmend, with Reghar Fireforge serving as a leader of the refugee community. In 1028 BD, Kharas Braveskin Frozen, a dwarven hero, was furious at Kovintus for taking over his ancestral mountain city. He proposed an attack on Kovintus to end the war and allow the refugees to leave peacefully. Kharas and a small group of dwarves attacked Kovintus, wounding the wizard but ultimately facing defeat. Kovintus managed to rally his forces and defeat the dwarves, leading to Kharas's death. In 1027 BD, the united force of the other dwarven houses eventually came to the rescue and engaged Kovintus and his army in the Battle of the Frozen Mountains. The dwarves fought bravely, eventually killing Kovintus and his forces and reclaiming Montmend after significant bloodshed.Mountaingate War
