Candlekeep

Candlekeep, also known as the Castle of Tomes, is the famous library-fortress that stands proud as a bastion of enlightenment and knowledge on the Sword Coast. It houses a magnificent collection of books and scrolls of lore, considered the greatest collection of the writings in all of Faerûn. The keep is the home of the Avowed, a group of renowned scholars and people of learning. It is close to the charming little coastal village of Candletown .
Baseline information in regards to Candlekeep can be found here.
Modifications to the actual lore include:   1330 after the Great War:
  • A hidden stash of Alaundo's prophecies is discovered while digging a new expansion in the Candlekeep underground. The amount of prophecies was already very impressive, but the new collection made it unbearably large. The sheer amount of prophecies makes it impossible to put them any form of logical order, so the Avowed try to place them approximately in chronological order. These prophecies are usually very cryptic, or may even sound lunatic at times, which makes the job of sorting them out a complete nightmare.
  •   1464 after the Great War:
  • Johnny Sins is chosen as the next Keeper of Tomes.
  •   1492 after the Great War:
  • Miirym the Sentinel Wyrm's soul is finally freed by Demi Von Spelunky, a member of the Golden Company .
  •   1494 after the Great War:
  • On the night of the Winter Crest, Johnny Sins' body is found in his room. The investigation of his murder is led by the Golden Company , to the request of the late Keeper of Tomes who had left a contingency letter asking for this specific group in case of an usual death or accident.
  • During the following days, on the days leading to the Deadwinter, the crew investigates thoroughly and finds out that the murder was done by the Great Reader Alkrist, under the masterful hand of other Great Reader Al'ai Aivenmore. They were aided by the First Reader, and former member of the Golden Company, Hadozen of Melokthor. The fallout of the investigation resulted in the legendary Vault of Secrets, containing multitudes of rare and powerful books, having its secret location compromised. It also led to the probable death of former Golden Company member, the minotaur Hirdrine. Alkrist was condemned to exile, having shown great contrition by helping the Golden Company tie out the loose ends. Hadozen was also condemned to exile, to the request of the Golden Company. Although he was stripped from his precious spellbook and any belongings that would have helped him bring back powerful defensive spells to Melokthor . Al'ai Aivenmore, not showing any sign of contrition and refusing to give up the master for whom he was stealing books for, was sentenced to death. The sentence was declared by the new Keeper of Tome Fheminor Scrivenbark, and carried out by the newly appointed Gatewarden Tadric Fortmyre.
