Modifications to the actual lore include: During the 2nd century after the Great War:Dragons have slowly acquired, during the last millenniums, a status of renown in the adventuring circles. To be a real adventurer means to have killed at least one dragon in your adventuring life. This leads to greater and greater ''dragon hunts'', forcing some of the younger dragons into hiding.
During the 5th century after the Great War:
Dragons are now hunted as a sport. Groups of very experienced adventurers receive large amounts of money to bring rich nobles on '' Dragon Safaris'', so that they too can have the prestige associated with killing one of these beasts.
Somewhere during the 7th century after the Great War:
The dragons disappear mysteriously, shortly after the murder of Zulgrim, an adult black dragon hiding in the Sunrise Mountains. Some theories were formulated, but it seemed like no one really knew how the dragons had disappeared. The grounds of Sunrise Mountain were called ''Dragon's End'', as this was the place where the last dragon was ever slain.
1493 after the Great War:
Dragons have been relegated to mythical creatures made for children's books and tall tales. People know they had existed, but rare were those that had laid eyes upon one.
Dragons reappear in Toril as fast as they had left. It is later revealed that, in the 7th century, in the face of the Great Dragon Hunts leading to the upcoming extinction of the race, some of the mightiest ancient dragons had aided the powerful Dalamar, an archmage from Krynn, in making a powerful enchantment that would instantly teleport all remaining living dragons to the land of Krynn. This would allow to safeguard the existence of the race for the time being, allowing it to one day come back with renewed force and numbers. But the accidental release of the trapped avatar of the goddess Tiamat by the Golden Company changed things drastically. After millenniums stuck, she came back to power only to realize that her mighty descendants, her son and daughters, had hidden instead of fight. Infuriated, the goddess used her reacquired powers to swiftly destroy Dalamar's enchantment, thus bringing the dragons back to the lands of Toril.
