Session 35 - Mononoke Rising - Report
General Summary
Date: 10-17-283
Now lost in an unknown part of the forest, The Gang decided to rest for the night after the painful teleportation spell used by Gaidaros. The following morning, feeling a bit more refreshed, Naemaris and Moriko went hunting.
Naemaris quickly came across a rabbit and attempted to speak with it. After an intreresting conversation that nearly ended with Naemaris agreeing to become the rabbit's personal bodyguard, he grabbed the rabbit and threw it in his bag, presumably realizing that he was bigger and stronger than the rabbit and had no need to negotiate with it in the first place. The rabbit was less than pleased with this sudden turn of events and proceeded to yell profanities at Naemaris on their walk back to camp. Once there, Naemaris sold the rabbit to Tally for a small fee, and the rabbit let out a few last profane comments before being killed by Tally. In a somewhat symbolic moment, Tally dipped his hand in the rabbit's blood and placed a bloody hand print over the white hand print on his breastplate, and painted the rest of his armor darker so as to blend in to the darkness of the forest a bit better.
Moriko, meanwhile, took a different path away from camp and, after catching some small game to feed on, noticed what sounded like a large creature stomping around a swamp. Feeling a bit nervous, Moriko made a mad dash back to camp.
Back at the camp, Tally also picked up on this sound thanks to his enchanted (and somewhat creepy) necklace of ears. Hearing the stomping sounds, as well as the sound of something running toward the camp, Tally, Naemaris, and Alexander prepared for a sneak attack on whatever was approaching. Once they heard the creature reach the bushes closest to the camp, Tally made his move... only to realize that the creature was Moriko, fleeing from the stomping noises. Moriko instinctively bit Tally in retaliation, but the fight ended there with everyone realizing that mistakes were made.
After collecting themselves and issuing some half-hearted apologies, The Gang headed out to investigate the stomping sound. Coming upon a shallow swamp, The Gang finally found the source of the noise: A large Catoblepas with a demon Nabassu digging its claws into the Catoblepas' back. They watched in silence as the thrashing Catoblepas slowly calmed down and began to take on a demonic appearance. The transformation now complete, both demonic beasts looked over at the party and began to charge.
After a fairly quick and uneventful fight, The Gang collected bits and pieces from the two monsters, as per usual, with Tally managing to perfectly skin the Nabassu (with the hopes of using the hide to create stronger and more intimidating armor).

At the edge of the forest, Lyra contemplated how effective a search effort would be to find her friends. After realizing a search would probably be in vain, considering the size of the forest, Lyra reluctantly headed toward Silmaniir in the hopes that the rest of The Gang would eventually make their way there.
Once there, Lyra met with Sorend and informed him of just how bad things in Cyradon had gotten. Sorend realized that if the islands inhabitants were going to live through this demon incursion, the brave few fighting the actual war would need any advantage they could get if they hoped to survive. With that, Sorend took Lyra back to Mythrenluna so she could attempt a series of trials that would grant her an ability that would hopefully be useful in the coming events. Without much explanation, Sorend gave Lyra a crystal pendant necklace, showed her to a portal, and wished her luck.
Lyra walked through the portal and found herself in a dim cave with a rune covered archway and a pedestal. After studying the runes and the pedestal, she used the crystal to draw the missing symbol from the archway onto the pedestal, and watched as the archway lit up with a magical energy, as did her crystal necklace. Proceeding through this archway portal, Lyra now found herself on a circular platform with three isolated areas
below, each with a ring of stones and a different symbol carved in the ground. Looking a bit more closely for some other kind of clue, Lyra noticed the platform she was standing on had indentations in the stone. Looking above, she saw just what had made those indentations: a large plate of spikes, slowly descending on her position...
