Antonio the Usurper

Prince Antonio Josef Ingrassia Casabianca

History Prince Antonio Josef Ingrassia Casabianca is the first born son of Francisco I and his first wife Isabella Ingrassia. He was born in Colina Dorado in 1522 and named heir apparent, though the strain of chilbirth killed his mother. He continued to reside in the palace, raised by his string of stepmothers.   In 1539, at the age of 17, Antonio began to look for a wife. His eyes first fell upon Sabina De Domenicio, a noblewoman of considerable beauty. However, his father beat him to a proposal, and married her in 1540.   After the failure of his father's marriage to Margaret of Buckingham, Antonio was pressured to mary a noblewoman of Gaul. He settled on Lucy Whitehall , and the pair were married in 1542. Their first child, Marco Whitehall Ingrassia , was born shortly after and place after his father in the line of succession.   The couple went on to have two more children: Prince Julio Whitehall Ingrassia and Princess Elia Whitehall Ingrassia. Sometime after the birth of Princess Elia, Lucy Whitehall fell ill, and returned to Gaul to recover. She died a few months later. Their children were between the ages of one and six.   Traumatized by the deaths of his mother and wife, Antonio never remarried, but remained close with his children, unlike the way his father treated him. He fathered a bastard with a common woman, named Achille Santos, and while he invited him to live in Colina Dorado with him, he never legitimized him as an heir. It is also rumored that he had an affair with his stepmother, Sabina, at this time, but this was never confirmed. Antonio led charges during the Sack of Ad Pontes and became an acclaimed war hero.   After the kidnapping of his stepmother Sabina De Domenicio and the subsequent war, Antonio ensured peace through the marriage of his daughter Elia to a Mitaran prince, Kagan Simsek. His father, Francisco, saw this as an insult, and the relationship worsened between the two.   In 1572, Francisco visited the Tourney of Dormus Passer and named the winner, Cassius Tiberius as his true heir. This outraged Antonio, and he and his sons declared war on his father. The Ingrassia branch lost the war of the Usurper. All of Antonio's sons were executed, save his bastard, Achille, and Antonio himself was imprisoned. His descendants were all disregarded from the line of succession, except for his grandson through Princess Elia: Francisco Ingrassia Simsek.

Personality and Appearance

Antonio is said to take after his mother's side of the family, with dark hair and eyes, and a strong nose and jaw. During his youth, many said he was quite handsome, though mournful, as his mother had been. In his age, he has grown portly, though not undignified. After the death of his wife, Lucy Whitehall, many lords wished to marry their daughter to the prince, though all were rejected.   In personality, Antonio is the opposite of his father - a man with a keen sense of justice and preoccupation with the good of the kingdom. He is known to have a private disdain for his father's lack of respect for his wives. He honored his late wife through the advancement of her children, refusing to remarry or legitimize his bastards for fear of superceding them.
