Nyx's Cloak

A Divinely Cast Shadow

Nyx's Cloak is the Divine Item of the Goddess of Lies, Nyx. It holds the Item Magic known as Shadow Magic, one of the most versatile powers granted by the Gods.

Nyx's Cloak by Max A Million
Said to be made from pure darkness, Nyx's Cloak is believed to be a very piece of Tsukuyomi's Chaos, the space surrounding Totania and its heavenly bodies, where all of Nyx's shadows are said to come from. Thus, it warps space around itself, able to become a literal shadow when worn.   In shadow form, it stretches out into the users own shadow. The only time it can become someone else's shadow is if they wear the cloak, but it can only be manipulated by the user, the Shadow Mage.   When it is worn properly, it is a plain black cloak. It is nondescript, meant to help someone hide in plain sight. The hood is slightly pointed, as it has been manipulated at some points to serve as both an outfit and a blade.   The length of the cloak can be changed, but by default it is long enough to reach the feet of an average sized Elf.

Power

The cloak grants a power to the shadow of the user, connecting them to all shadows around them. It does not have Shadow Magic itself, but instead unlocks it in the user.   Shadow Magic allows for manipulation of all shadows. The limit is said to be the imagination of the user, as they can control the shadows of others, their own shadows, transport themselves between shadows, and make shadows interact with the physical world.   Unlike Dark Magic, it is linked to shadows. If there are no shadows, it has less power, as the cloak must manifest itself against the power of light itself. It takes considerable effort, but it is made to do that, so it is possible to use it even when shadows do not naturally form.

History

Nyx was a tricky figure among the Gods, as she disobeyed their rules and orders often, sneaking around them, lying to them, and stealing from them. The King of the Gods, Izanagi, did not mind, but his brother Tsukuyomi decided that she needed to be stopped.

She snuck into his Heavenly Realm, attempting to steal a fragment of chaos itself, but fell into Tsukuyomi's trap. For this, she was marked with an evergrowing darkness engulfing her. However, the God of Darkness did not know that she had succeeded.   Returning to her own Heavenly Realm with the fragment of chaos, it was shaped into shadows. Due to the nature of chaos, it grew infinitely, becoming her own power, a piece of darkness entirely her own. Her cloak was a piece of that chaos which she decided to bestow onto mortals.
