Mitiris

Built on the north coast of Beraca, Mitiris contains the Chained Citadel and is home to the Order of the Rod.

Government

Mitiris is ruled by the Order of the Rod with a Commander appointed to oversee the running of the town. The Commander has several captains reporting to them, with each one assigned to look after a different aspect of running the town. The laws of Mitiris allow the Commander to rule with a steel fist, ensuring the populace work to provide a secure environment for the leaders of the Order through fear of harsh punishments.

Defences

20ft high walls surround Mitiris, and separate the port area from the rest of the town. The walls are reinforced with tower at regular intervals, Catapults are setup along the port side of the town to deter attacjing ships (or stop those attempting to flee the town), and braziers are setup ready to light fire arrows should the need arise.   The town's primary defensive force is the Order of the Rod itself. With multiple companies of soldiers stationed at the citadel or training nearby, and the most powerful clerics of the order almost constantly in residence it would take a formidable force to take the town.

Industry & Trade

Despite the brutal laws and harsh restrictions imposed in Mitiris it is a popular destination for those looking to trade goods between Beraca and Kaara. Most ships lose a few crew members to what would be a minor transgression in any other town, but the harsh penalties imposed for attempting to cheat other merchants means that it can be a far safer place to trade than any of the other ports along the north coast.   While there are a number of rare ores and other materials only available from Beraca, Mitiris' main trade is in slaves. The order deplores waste so slaves are kept in better condition than those traded in many other places, especially when it comes to skilled slaves.

Architecture

Mitiris of built of a combination of yellow stone, and fired clay bricks. Any buildings made from bricks are coated in plaster and painted the same colour as the stone to ensure a uniform look for the town. Most buildings have flat roofs which are used as outdoor rooms.   Apart from buildings used by senior members of the order, glass for windows is almost unheard of. Shutters and cloth or leather coverings are used to keep out the wind, sand, and water little rainfall there is.

The city of chains as it is known in Kaara, is viewed with a mixture of fear and relief by the Church of Tarin and the countries on that continent. Fear for it's growing power and the military threat it represents, and relief that they know where the Order is and that it is on another continent. Tarinians have tried to persuade various groups including the Kingdom of Caresnas that Mitiris and the Order need to be dealt with, but so far their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
