The Primordial Species
What's currently known as "the Primordials" is actually the genetic predecessor to the current sentient species on the planet. The main difference is their number of eyes, which is also the difference in their scientific name. The Unus Petralumen, "the primordials", had only one eye, thus earning them the 'unus' prefix, while the Tribus Petralumen, the "Gemclops", have three.
The species was the only sentient species on the planet until the Great Extinction, when they died off and evolved/mutated into the current gemclops species. There are no living Primoridals remaining on the planet.
The species was discovered by Ravvar Syker, a historian previously researching ancient plants. He was on the outskirts of Prima, the oldest known village in any of the kingdoms. Only a skull was found, but many have theorized since that because the only skeletal difference between species is the skull, perhaps when only a body is found, it could belong to the primordial race without anyone knowing.
The species itself looks very similar to the Tribus Petralumen. They have two horns, one on each side of their head, with one large eye in the middle of their face. They have gemstones growing from various places on their skin and long tails stemming from their spines. Not much is known about their social structures or language, but researchers have been searching for more clues about their lifestyles and histories since their discovery. Unfortunately, the people of Tritanix 3 may never know the truths about their ancestors, but that doesn't stop them from trying. Scholars are always trying to create theories with the current knowledge of the primordial species.
